ADORATION Please call the Church Office at 797-4842

For more information on how you can sign up for an hour of adoration. There are many times available.

From The Pastor’s Desk Without missing a beat, the father replies, "Well, my guess is so you can kiss your luggage goodbye.

#2 - An attendant on a cross-country flight nervously an-nounced: "I don't know how this happened, but we have 103 passengers aboard and only 40 dinners." When the passengers' muttering had died down, she con-tinued, "Anyone who is kind enough to give up his meal so someone else can eat will receive free drinks for the length of the flight." Her next announcement came an hour later. "If anyone wants to change his mind, we still have 29 dinners available!"

#3 - As a crowded airliner is about to take off, the peace is shattered by a 5-year-old boy who picks that moment to throw a wild temper tantrum. No matter what his frustrat-ed, embarrassed mother does to try to calm him down, the boy continues to scream furiously and kick the seats around him. Suddenly, from the rear of the plane, an elderly man in the uniform of an Air Force General is seen slowly walking forward up the aisle. Stopping the flustered mother with an upraised hand, the white-haired, courtly, soft-spoken Gen-eral leans down and, motioning toward his chest, whispers something into the boy's ear. Instantly, the boy calms down, gently takes his mother's hand, and quietly fastens his seat belt. All the other passen-gers burst into spontaneous applause. As the General, slowly makes his way back to his seat, one of the cabin attendants touches his sleeve. "Excuse me, General," she asks quietly, "but could I ask you what magic words you used on that little boy?" The old man smiles serenely and gently confides, "I showed him my pilot's wings, service stars, and battle rib-bons, and explained that they entitle me to throw one pas-senger out the plane door on any flight I choose."

#4 – A man had been driving all night and by morning was still far from his destination. He decided to stop at the next city he came to, and park somewhere quiet so he could get an hour or two of sleep. As luck would have it, the quiet place he chose happened to be on one of the city's major jogging routes. No sooner had he settled back to snooze when there came a knocking on his window. He looked out and saw a jogger running in place. "Yes?" "Excuse me, sir," the jogger said, "do you have the time?" The man looked at the car clock and answered, "8:15". ,The jogger said thanks and left. The man settled back again, and was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window and another jogger. "Excuse me, sir, do you have the time?" "8:25!" The jogger said thanks and left. Now the man could see other joggers passing by and he knew it was only a matter of time before another one disturbed him. To avoid the prob-lem, he got out a pen and paper and put a sign in his win-dow saying, "I do not know the time!" Once again he settled back to sleep. He was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window. "Sir, sir? It's 8:45!." Fr. Murphy

Dear Parishioners,

We come now to the close of the month of May on this 6th Sunday of Easter. As we prepare for the hot summer months, there are a few things I would like to address:

First, because many of our volunteers will be going on vacation, we have suspended coffee and donuts from June to August. It will resume in September. Also, it can get quite hot on the porch during the summer months. We have also suspended the first of the month breakfasts in the Marian Hall during the same months. It will also resume in September.

Second, for you who are adorers of the Blessed Sacra-ment, if you are planning to vacation for a period of time, please call the parish office and let Sue Ann Nanney know or you can reach Deborah Harvey, the coordinator. Due to the fact that our snowbirds are gone, we are having a number of vacancies for adoration hours. We do not want to neglect this vitally important ministry. We want to make sure that our visits with Jesus our covered. So, please let us know if you are having problems finding a substitute for your hour when you go on vacation. We will do our best to help you with this matter. On another note, if you go to adoration every week, please consider do another hour during the week. You will not be wasting time!

Third, do not fall into the temptation to take a vacation from your weekend mass obligations. Many parishioners do this. I still recall a family that disappeared every summer in one of my previous assignments. When I saw her one Sun-day in the beginning of September, I asked her where she had been all summer. She casually looked at me and re-plied, “Come on Father. Let’s be real. We took a vacation from church. It’s a pain to get all my children up on a Sun-day morning, dressed and fed and ready for church. We needed a break from mass.” This poor soul truly did not understand the importance of weekly mass. Don’t fall into this trap. Be consistent in your obligations.

And now some funnies:

#1 - It was the beginning of December. Their trip had gone reasonably well, and the family, ready to return home, had arrived at the airport. O’Hare airport, long known for its winter-weather flight delays and cancellations, long security-check lines, and lost luggage, had turned a tacky red and green, and loudspeak-ers blared annoying elevator renditions of cherished Christ-mas carols. Going to check in their luggage they noticed hanging mis-tletoe over the weigh in-scale. Not real mistletoe, but very cheap plastic with red paint on some of the rounder parts and green paint on some of the flatter and "pointier" parts. The little boy in the family piped up and said, "Why is that mistletoe hanging up there?"

Please Pray For The Sick Ann Merritt, Amy Luiz, Joe & Alyce Orlando, Laurie Hesson, Linda Vandenberg, Judy McPartland, Jim Richardson, June Gunther, Clara Caiola, Lillian Zahnow, Catherine Genovesi Schramm, Chris Janson, Eleanor Welsh, George Long, Ann Mazzaraco, Melanie Hayes, Ellen Fruscione, Liela Meyerer, Betty Nanney, Dr. Bruce Berger, Anna Berger, Nancy Raich, Chris Favareu, Inge Caliandro, Hatsue Wright, Shirley MacMullen, Joshua Solana, James Bolton, Mary Ellen Page, Joan Daniel, Lorraine Davi, Nick Davi, Jeanette Cohn, Aaron Rouselle, Kristiann Rouselle, Rita Pellicer, Susan Sharp, Marissa Zagorski, Kyle Driver, Rudolph Duzant, Dale Douyl-liez, Mary Murphy, Pat Richardson, Claire Doyle, Cyril Lenahan, Gina Ross, Linda Pierce, Carolyn Accardi, Russell Flacker, Diane Cornell, Susan Hermus, Pat Price, Addy Tomberlin, Carol Bishop, Yolanda Kuenster, Anthony & Carol Zelazny, Paul Putnam, Donna Marinelli, Mackenzie Donovan, Mary Celine Aaron, Michael Car-penter, Joann Wingate, Sondra Miller, Steve Collins, Jay Odgen, Marianne Wareham, Buddy Roeder , Mary Gaudiomonte, Mary Hiatt, Gail Finch, Daniel Crawford, Linda Minsky, Dennis Francis, Austin Braddock, Lisa Schafer, Pattie Webb, Patty Traffic, Audrey Redmond, William Lewis, Tommy Staring, Evelyne Bonanno, Shirley Dulap, Cheryl Fair, D. PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

The independent streak in every human can resent rules and regulations we often rebel against the idea of blindly following rules we did not creat for our-selves. We have inherited this willfulness from Adam and Eve, who could not resist eating from the one tree strictly outlawedin the Garden of Eden. Jesus, fully human and fully divine, personally understands our desire to do things ourselves, in His own garden, the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus transformed human his-tory. Instead of following His own inclinations, He offered his decision-making, His free will, His very life to God. As the Gospel of Luke tells us, Jesus, “was in such agony and He prayed so fervently that His sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.” Ob-serving law is not easy, not even for the Son of God. But Jesus promises that keeping God’s words will bring us peace. Jesus’ submission led to resurrection; our obedience will calm our hearts, allowing God to dwell deep within.
