Baptism Preparation

Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays by appointment,

requiring participation in the Baptismal Preparation

Program. Classes are scheduled on Sundays at 7:00 pm

(parents must attend one class) as follows:

April 28 and May 19.

Our Easter Mailing - Two weeks ago we sent out our

Easter mailing. About 1,000 went out by email and

1,500 by regular mail. We hope that we will continue to

reach out to our parishioners. If you have not already

given us your email address could you please send us a

note at [email protected] or include it with your Easter enve-

lopes. We hope that the newest methods of IT will

help us to communicate.

If you did not receive this mailing, please call the office to update your information.

Jesus was a Jew; his first disciples were Jews; the earliest Christian commu-

nities worshipped in the synagogue. These facts coloured liturgical expression

in the early life of the Church. The Second Vatican Council and contemporary

liturgical understanding invite a lived consciousness of the Jewish roots of

Christianity. We are invited to reconsider those Christian Feasts which origi-

nated in the Jewish holy days that Jesus celebrated and to which he opened

new facets of meaning through the eschatological dimension of his ministry.

Easter, the Christian Feast of liberation, grew out of the Jewish feast of Passover. In our Easter Vigil we

preserve the Passover readings which celebrate freedom from slavery in Egypt and recall the new interpretation

given to the Feast by the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Seven weeks after Easter, Christians celebrate Pentecost, God’s gift of the Holy Spirit, our guide to life;

seven weeks after Passover, Jesus (and every other observant Jew then and now) celebrated Shavuot, God’s gift

of the Torah as a guide to life.

We are a “pilgrim people”; we are on a journey that someday will bring us to the gates of heaven and within.

God has shown us his love in the person of His Son, Jesus. Jesus has lived out the invitation from God to be

Saviour. The Father and the Son have proved beyond compare their love for us. We are called to love in return.

God’s spirit allows this reality.

May we be models of this reality and be an example for all those who come our way.

May God continue to enhance our journey and may we be a people that live, love and shout ALLELUIA — He is

Risen! He lives in us. May we live for others.

May the wonder of Easter be in you and in all of yours.

A special THANX … to all the parishioners who made a special effort to make Lent a spiritual journey — those

who celebrated Eucharist during the week; those who joined in at Stations of the Cross and Benediction on Friday

nights; and those who celebrated the Prayer of the Church (Vespers) and Benediction on Sunday evenings. We

thank our choirs who have practiced long hours to make our Holy Week celebrations an uplifting experience. ...for

all those who made their special Easter offerings for the décor, may our prayers speed their loved ones on the

road to heaven if they are not already there. ...to all those who volunteered their time and effort to decorate,

polish the brass, wash & iron the linens, etc. JR

SSVP Corpus Christi SSVP has committed to 300 1 kg. bags of PLAIN oatmeal which cook in 1—2 minutes. We are not collecting the boxes of single servings. While these are popular here, they are not practical in preparing a meal for large families. If you are able, we would appreciate any help with this cause. They will be collected in the regular collection boxes. If you would like more information of the North of 60 project, go to www.ssvp.ca/north-60.
