INCENDIO
Natura del fenomeno
1
8
Definizione (1)
carta, petrolio, gas combustibile, ecc.
nell’aria (21% in volume).
9
Condizioni (1)
1. il combustibile: i materiali infiammabili sono classificati in base alla loro reazione al fuoco in classi (0 = incombustibile);
2. il comburente: ruolo svolto usualmente dall'ossigeno;

Reazione al fuoco (1)
http://www.vigilfuoco.it/aspx/page.aspx?IdPage=425314
• Il grado di partecipazione di un materiale combustibile al fuoco al quale e’ sottoposto;
• in relazione a cio’, i materiali sono assegnati alle classi 0, 1, 2, 3, … con l’aumentare della loro partecipazione alla combustione;
• quelli di classe 0 sono non combustibili.

Strategie
realizzazione dell’opera:
a) adozione di materiali da costruzione
incombustibili;
b) rimozione di materiali da costruzione
combustibili.
• Le correzioni sono costose…18
19
INCENDIO
• Incendio = combustione autoalimentata ed
incontrollata di materiali combustibili.
• Carattere estensivo (diffusione nello spazio):
1. wildfire
2. urbanfire
3. all’esterno di un edificio
4. all’interno di un interno
• Carattere intensivo (andamento nel tempo).
• Natura accidentale.1919

Prevenzione Incendi

cimentare l’opera stessa. A tal fine, è definito:
potrà trovarsi durante la vita utile di progetto;
cimentano la struttura;

Controlling Fire Spread
• The larger a fire, the greater its destructive
potential.
• The control of fire movement, or fire
spread, is discussed in four categories:
1. within the room of origin;
2. to other rooms on the same level;
3. to other storey of the same building;
4. to other buildings.

81
Rischio, Rischio, Rischio
• Area a rischio specifico e’ una porzione dell'attivita’ caratterizzate da rischio di incendio sostanzialmente differente rispetto a quello tipico dell'attivita. L'individuazione delle aree a rischio specifico:a. riportata nella regole tecniche verticali;
b. in assenza, e’ effettuata dal progettista secondo i criteri dell'allegato 15.

Treatment
8484
Option 1 – Risk avoidance, which usually means not
proceeding to continue with the system; this is not
always a feasible option, but may be the only course
of action if the hazard or their probability of
occurrence or both are particularly serious;
Option 2 – Risk reduction, either through (a) reducing the
probability of occurrence of some events, or (b)
through reduction in the severity of the
consequences, such as downsizing the system, or
(c) putting in place control measures;
Option 3 – Risk transfer, where insurance or other financial
mechanisms can be put in place to share or
completely transfer the financial risk to other parties;
this is not a feasible option where the primary
consequences are not financial;
Option 4 – Risk acceptance, even when it exceeds the
criteria, but perhaps only for a limited time until other
measures can be taken. 8585

Mechanical Analysis
• The mechanical analysis shall be performed for the same duration as used in the temperature analysis.
• Verification of fire resistance should be in:– in the strength domain: Rfi,d,t ≥ Efi,requ,t
(resistance at time t ≥ load effects at time t);
– in the time domain: tfi,d ≥ tfi,requ
(design value of time fire resistance ≥ time required)
– In the temperature domain: Td ≤ Tcr
(design value of the material temperature ≤ critical material temperature);

Primary contributor: detection
• Long response time of detectors to give alarm
• Closed doors in the room where fire started
• Lack of effective fire fighting measures for first intervention(automatic sprinklers, training of security guards, …)
Secondary contributor:
Internal intervention
• Lack of water pressure for fire brigade intervention
The fire initiation
215
Primary Contributor
• Gap between curtain wall and floor slab never fire stopped
• Smoke & flame pass through breach of compartment:
no fire doors
no penetration seals
no shaft protection
• Burning droplets allowed to pass down. Fire started on floor 21, but spread as far down as floor 2 !!!
Secondary contributor
• Glazed façade had no fire rating
• Windows failed at early stag

FDS: Solver
• The partial derivatives of the conservation
equations of mass, momentum and energy are
approximated as finite differences.
• The solution is updated in time on a three-
dimensional, rectilinear grid.
• Thermal radiation is computed using a finite
volume technique on the same grid as the flow
solver.
• Lagrangian particles are used to simulate
smoke movement, sprinkler discharge, and
fuel sprays.
