CORVETTE CLUB OF ILLINOIS NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2014 President’s Message I know that everyone is ready for SPRING to get here and get our Corvettes out of storage. We have had enough of the White Stuff this winter. Delora was just saying the other day that she is ready to go on a Road Trip to anywhere, just as long as her Vette is involved. This is a reminder to always check your email or Facebook to make sure that we have not cancelled or postponed a Club Event because of the weather. We hope that no one ventures out in bad weather, but we always try to make a decision as soon as possible as to the status of a Club Event. If you are in doubt about the weather just call one of the officers they will know what is hap- pening. Please plan to come to the Third Annual Chili/Soup Cook-off which is re-scheduled for February 15 th at the Carpenter’s Hall at 6:00 pm as the time to eat. Everyone is welcome you can bring Chili, Soup, Dessert, or any- thing else that goes with Chili/Soup to share. This is turning out to be a lot of FUN for everyone who attends and of course you get to sample really Great Food. Art got to talk with Guy Larson at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida about some of the plans for this year’s Bloomington Gold. The people of Bloomington Gold are trying to make this event even better for everyone. I will let Art tell everyone about the plans for this year. It looks to me that they have listened to some of the suggestions that they heard from last year. When we get the plans from the Bloomington Gold People for 2014 I will make sure that everyone knows what they are. I know that everyone can plan on helping out with the Mecum Auction like we did last year WHAT FUN that was. The people of Bloomington Gold told me that the registration would be available around February 15 th . You still have time to make your reservations for the Tail of the Dragon Trip on July 12-20, 2014. We have 37 couples signed up for this Club Trip at this time, but we still have rooms for 40 to 45. The plans are stay Saturday night at Pigeon Forge, TN and then on to Fontana Resort for Sunday thru Wednesday Night. We are then plan- ning to go the Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, NC for Thursday and to stay there in Asheville, NC. The next day we will go on to Charlotte, NC and the NASCAR Hall of Fame to tour different Garages, etc. There is a copy of tenta- tive schedule and motels in this news- letter. We are asking for everyone’s help to think of some Different Events or Places to Go for 2014. We like new ideas of events and places because we really like change. Doug DOUG’s TECH CORNER: This is just a reminder to do a few checks before you get your Corvette out of Storage. The first thing to do is check the tire pressure in all tires before you start driving your Vette because with the temperature change it could make the tire pressures change over the winter. Another item that you should check is to make sure that your Battery is fully charged because with all the computers in the newer Corvettes it only takes a low battery to make for a problem. It will not hurt to put a bottle of either Heet or a Gas Additive to make sure not to have any moisture in the Gas. Hello!!! Below is the link you can send out to your hydra-tion station volunteers to have them sign up. Also listed is the password you will need to get in to the correct account. Just find your group’s name listed in the dropdown and enter the password. Please make sure you fill out all of the needed information, includ-ing t-shirt sizes.!! Please try and have people sign up sooner than later so we can ensure that each station is filled, and, we have enough t-shirts. We usually order the last batch a few weeks before the marathon so if you can have everyone registered BY the first week of April, that would be ideal.!! I will send out an email in a few weeks with a link for leaders to see who has signed up. In the meantime while we get that set up, email me if you want a listing of who has registered.!! Thanks again for participating in this year’s marathon, it’s going to be a great race!! !Link: http://www.doitsports.com/volunteer2/join-protected-group.tcl?event_id=195548!Password: vroom! !Kate Bugusky!Volunteer Co-Coordinator!217.366.9678!

! Maple Syrup Experience: Sunday, March 2, leave Og-den Phillips 66 station at 9:30 AM. Stop for lunch at Richard’s Farm in Casey. Dress warm to be in the woods collecting sap. Then watch it boil to maple syrup at Belle Vue Farm, 1 mile south of Palestine. Return approx 8 PM. This cruise is weather-dependent, the weather has to be below freezing at night, and above freezing and sunny during the day for sap to flow; if weather is overcast or raining or snowing or temp too high or too low, the cruise may be cancelled so check email before you come. Pure maple syrup is a natural antioxidant. You can buy all the syrup you want to bring back! Call Art or Carol for more information.

ANNUAL CLUB BANQUET will be held this year at the Ozark House in Bloomington, on Sunday, April 27. The restaurant is usually not open on Sundays, but is opening just for us that day. Located at 704 McGre-gor St, just one block off Rt 150, the Ozark House has been in business for over 35 years and is known for homemade recipes, succulent BBQ, hand-cut steaks, and exceptionally fresh seafood. All Veterans will receive special promotions at Corvette Fun-fest, including personalized giveaways, preferred seating at Corvette Funfest venues, the lead in the Thursday Night Fun Run, complimentary Pancake Breakfast Sunday morning and much more. A Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be on display during Corvette Funfest. A 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, the traveling wall stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. The weekend will include Corvette Funfest favorites, such as expert seminars, Celebrity Choice Judging, Thursday Night Fun Run, Friday Charity Event, headlining Saturday night entertainment and more.
