Description
Extraordinary monuments that bear witness to the passing of the centuries, a rich and varied cuisine to be savoured, a variety of
shops to explore: Rome meets all requirements related to leisure and culture.
What we will see
Centre of Rome
City Centre Streets, Monuments and Squares* Restaurants, renowned cafés and shops
world famous museums and churches
What we will do
At the port of Civitavecchia we are met by a local guide who, during the coach trip to the centre of Rome, gives us practical
tourist information and a city map that will be very useful to explore one of the most fascinating cities in the world on our own.
After setting an appointment for our return, we leave the bus and we are immediately immersed in the magical atmosphere of
the Eternal City, where, at every turn, we encounter evidence of many centuries of history that have contributed to make the
city what it is today, from pagan times through the long earthly reign of the Popes up to the present.
Along elegant streets and in the narrow alleys, in the large and small squares, up and down the gentle slopes of the seven hills,
wandering around Rome is an unforgettable experience for everyone because this city offers a concentration of sublime art,
entertainment and shopping like very few other cities in the world.
The day is all ours to see, visit, buy and enjoy all that Rome has to offer, as we wish.
In the late afternoon, we return to the meeting point as agreed with our local guide at the agreed time to return on board.

Our destination is a truly unique village: Civita di Bagnoregio, which will appear before our eyes, perched precariously on a
rocky spur.
We will get off the coach near the only access point: a long, pedestrianised bridge made from reinforced concrete, built to
benefit the few remaining residents and the tourists that come to visit the citadel from all over the world.
That is how we will enter this attractive Medieval town, known as "the City of Death" due to the gradual erosion of the tufa
foundations on which it was built.
We will walk around the tiny centre where time seems to have stood still, treating us to a truly surreal and unforgettable
atmosphere, with little stone houses adorned with flowers and lookout points offering breathtaking views of the enormous clay
walls that support the city and views of the surrounding valley.

We set of by coach from Civitavecchia, heading to Rome where a guide awaits to lead us on a tour of the endlessly fascinating
and eye-opening attractions of the eternal city.
Our adventure begins with a sightseeing coach tour of Rome’s ancient ruins, which even today lend the centre of the city an
air of majesty and prestige.
Our route takes us past such wonders as the Pyramid of Cestius, a funeral monument built in the Egyptian style in the 1st
century BC, the Baths of Caracalla, the grandest thermal complex of the imperial age, the Circus Maximus, where the crowds
once flocked to watch the chariot races.
We leave our coach for a guided tour of the church of San Pietro in Vincoli (Saint Peter in Chains), which is home to a
Michelangelo masterpiece, a statue of Moses.
Next, we stop to take a photo or two at the Colosseum, perhaps the most famous monument in Rome and an absolute must-
see on our visit to the city. From there, we begin a walking tour along the via dei Fori Imperiali, where the ancient imperial
capital seems to come back to life. This leads us to the feet of the Capitoline Hill and Piazza Venezia, on whose southern side
towers “Il Vittoriano” the imposing monument to King Victor Emanuel II.
At this point, we may be beginning to feel a little languorous, so what better time to take a seat for some deliciously authentic
Italian cooking with lunch at a local restaurant?
Suitably restored, we head back out on foot, this time focusing on the treasures of Baroque Rome: we pass the Trevi Fountain
, with the ever-present throngs of tourists, and the Palazzo Montecitorio, a glorious example of Roman Baroque, which
overlooks the piazza of the same name, and which is now the seat of the Chamber of Deputies, one of the two houses of the
Italian Parliament. Finally, we reach Piazza Navona, with the splendid fountain designed by the great sculptor and architect
Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
Our last stop is the Vatican City, where the two semi-circles of the colonnade designed by Bernini embrace the circular piazza
and frame the façade and huge dome of the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica.
The transfer to Rome takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The guide will join the excursion group once we reach Rome.
This excursion involves about 2 hours of walking. Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.
This excursion is not available to passengers who are leaving the ship at Civitavecchia.
This excursion is not recommended for guests with lmited mobility.
We recommend that you book early as only a limited number of places are available.
Due to new security control procedures many tourist sites may have long queues, even for pre-booked groups.

Description
This excursion retraces the main stages of the long history of Rome, the cradle of civilization and Christianity, an amazing city with
immense historical, artistic and spiritual wealth.
What we will see
Colosseum
Trevi Fountain
Pantheon
Piazza Navona
St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica
What we will do
When we arrive in Rome, we begin our visit with a sightseeing tour of the city (by coach) that takes us to some of Rome's most
famous monuments including the magnificent Colosseum, built by the Emperors of the Flavian dynasty for public
entertainment. We leave the coach to admire this symbolic monument of ancient Rome from the exterior and we continue on
foot.
Our itinerary takes us to the Trevi Fountain, a magnificent Baroque monument that attracts visitors to the Eternal City and is
also famous for the custom of throwing coins into the water with your back to the fountain: one to make sure you return to
Rome and a second one to make a wish.
The tour proceeds to the Pantheon, one of the best preserved monuments of Antiquity, built by the Emperor Hadrian in
honour of all the gods.
Our next stop is Piazza Navona, one of the landmarks of the city, which is still steeped in the atmosphere of the times when it
was the scene of circus games in 17th century Rome. Here we have free time for lunch.
Our main destination awaits us in the afternoon: St. Peter's Square with its magnificent Basilica. We stop to observe the
colonnade designed by Bernini that embraces the circular area of the square framing the façade of the Basilica and its huge
dome.
In our free time we can visit St. Peter's Basilica, the symbol of the Vatican State, built on the tomb of St. Peter. Inside there are
priceless treasures of art including the Pietà, the magnificent marble statue by Michelangelo.
After a last look at the heart of Christianity and after taking another few photos with which to remember it we return to the
coach that takes us back to the ship.

What we will see
Historical centre of Tarquinia
Church of Santa Maria in Castello
Fortified tower of the Countess Matilda of Canossa, Piazza delle Erbe and the Barucci Tower
Etruscan Necropolis of Tarquinia and the National Etruscan Museum
Lunch with dishes of the ancient Etruscan tradition.
What we will do
We leave the port and head for the ancient city of Corneto, today's Tarquinia, an architectural and historical jewel within the
medieval walls of a charming hamlet that has been nicknamed the "San Giminiano" of the Latium region because of its
numerous towers.
We leave the coach and wander through the alleys and hidden corners of the historic centre to discover an unexpected and
exciting world that is not only made of the particular bricks with their unmistakable colour - the colour of macco, a unique
local building material - but also of fascinating stories, legends and anecdotes.
Romanesque, Gothic and Neoclassical architectural styles are almost unwittingly intertwined on the façades of the palazzi and
churches, including the splendid church of Santa Maria in Castello which towers in isolation on the edge of the hill.
Evoking memories, mysteries and surprises, our walk takes us to the Fortified Tower of the Countess Matilda of Canossa, a
jewel set in fortification walls that are well worth viewing, Piazza delle Erbe, dominated by the Barucci Tower at the foot of
which the executioner carried out his grim rituals in Medieval times.
And then we come to more alleys, coats of arms, cloisters and medieval towers: a perfect setting which evokes a time when
hoards of monks beguiled rich and poor, the powerful and the destitute in their attempt to address their needs and forecast
their destiny.
Our lunch break becomes a way to continue our encounter with this magical land steeped in history. Indeed, Tarquinia is also
the cradle of the Etruscan civilization and at the restaurant we are served typical local dishes which have been handed down
from the Etruscan culinary tradition.
We continue to be spellbound at the Necropolis of Tarquinia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we have the opportunity
to see some of the most beautiful painted tombs that have made this archaeological site famous
To complete our journey through Etruscan culture which, in many ways is still unknown, we go to the Palazzo Vitelleschi which
today houses the National Etruscan Museum, where we can relive the fascinating world of this Tyrrhenian people by admiring
the precious exhibits on display.
Please note: Space is limited, so please book early. The excursion is mainly a stroll on a medieval path, so comfortable walking shoes
are recommended. The order of the itinerary may vary.

Description
Palermo has been declared one of the best ten cities in the world for its street food: with this excursion dedicated to the delicacies of
the Sicilian tradition, we discover a chapter of local history with each bite.
What we will see
Kalsa district
Tasting session of Sicilian fried food
Ballarò market
Tasting session of stuffed sardines
Cathedral, Capo market, Teatro Massimo
Tasting session of cannoli
What we will do
Our excursion to discover Sicilian “street food” starts in the Kalsa district, built during Islamic rule and once a fortified city
where the emir and his ministers lived.
Strolling around the lively popular alleyways, we take in a unique Eastern atmosphere emphasised by monuments in the Arab-
Norman style and stop to enjoy delicious Sicilian fried foods - panelle, arancini and crocchette truly delight our palates.
We venture into the old city as far as Ballarò market, where we admire displays of juicy fruit, spices and fresh fish as our ears
fill with expressions in the local dialect.
We then seat in a typical local trattoria to enjoy the famous sarde a beccafico (stuffed sardines), a tasty dish that takes us
straight to the heart of the Sicilian cuisine.
Our itinerary continues to see some of the city's sights: we walk by the Cathedral, a charming combination of shapes and
styles, cross the Capo market famous for its size and folklore, and admire Teatro Massimo, the largest opera theatre in Italy.
We then make one last stop at the most famous café in Palermo where we try a sublime cannolo, the king of Sicilian
traditional desserts and a perfect end to our excursion dedicated to food.

Salemi
Norman castle
Piazza Alicia and Chiesa Madre
Church and College of the Jesuits
What we will do
We will leave the port of Palermo and head towards Belice Valley, considered one of the most beautiful places in Sicily thanks
to its endless countryside, rolling hills, vineyards and ancient villages dotted across the region.
Our destination is Salemi old town, nestled 500 metres above sea level in a hub of narrow streets, picturesque squares,
churches and noble residences.
We will admire the Norman Castle (from the outside), built on the top of the hill, acting as an open-air museum where we can
enjoy a pleasant stroll far away from the chaotic traffic.
Wandering along the ancient alleyways, we will reach Piazza Alicia, in the heart of the old town, which is overlooked by the
moving remains of the Chiesa Madre or 'Mother Church', which was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1968.
Slightly further on we will come across the former College of the Jesuits, a stark 15th-century building that is today home to
the Civic Museum, and next to it, the Church of the Jesuits with its beautiful Baroque façade embellished by a portal with tufa
columns (external visits).

inlets, bays and beaches set, one after the other, against the backdrop of azure water.
Our route leads us close by some of the structures erected for the 2004 Olympics, then on through the cosmopolitan coastal
suburb of Vouliagmeni, with its charming bays and beaches, and the resort of Varkiza, a favourite destination for both
professional and amateur athletes, who come here to train and enjoy a variety of aquatic sports.
Finally, we come to the evocative, southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula, Cape Sounion, which offers breathtaking views of
the sea and majestic ruins from the Golden Age of Athens.
Here, we take the time to admire the magnificent Temple of Poseidon, which sits perched on the rocks 60 m above the sea.
Built in the 5th century BC on the orders of Pericles, the temple is dedicated to the Greek god of the sea. Indeed, many of the
cruise ships that pass Cape Sounion today still pay homage to Poseidon by lowering their flags or sounding their horns.
The temple commands stunning views of the Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades: a feast for both the eyes and the soul!
The panoramic coach transfer to Cape Sounion takes approximately 75 minutes.

What we will do
We board our coach at the port in Piraeus for the short journey to the cosmopolitan city of Athens, the capital of Greece and,
for many, the cradle of Western civilisation itself.
We disembark at the feet of the majestic Acropolis and make our way by foot to the top of the Pnyx. One of the numerous
hills of Athens, the Pnyx offers marvellous views of the Acropolis and the rest of Athens, though it is often overlooked by
tourists.
The Pnyx is one of the most ancient, and important, sites in the history of democracy. As early as 507 BC, Athenians are
known to have gathered here for the ecclesia, the city’s popular assembly and the first form of democratic government in the
world. **- Back on board the coach, our tour continues, introducing us to a number of other major sites such as the
Panathenaic Stadium – the only large stadium in the world to be built entirely from white marble – the elegant neoclassical
headquarters of the Academy of Athens and the Greek Parliament.
We set foot on terra firma once again at Syntagma Square in the heart of the city. From there, our guide will accompany us on
a walk to the charming Monastiraki neighbourhood, which is famous for its bustling flea market.
Here, we have the chance to enjoy a taste of one of Greece’s favourite street food specialities, indeed one of the country’s
most iconic culinary treats, a gyros pita: a flatbread filled with meat, vegetables and French-fried potatoes.
We then make our way to the oldest neighbourhood in Athens, the Plaka, where we find a heady mix of neoclassical buildings,
actual classical monuments and characteristic shops that seem forgotten by time, all interspersed with traditional restaurants,
cafés and boutiques.
At the end of our guided walking tour, we have some free time to continue exploring or do a little shopping around the
Plaka. **
La visita dell'Acropoli è facoltativa e gli ospiti potranno accedervi pagando il biglietto di ingresso.

What we will do
After leaving the port of Piraeus, we drive by coach past the naval port of Zea. It was built by Themistocles as a defence
against the Persian Empire in the early 5th century BC.
We then arrive in Athens, the cradle of Western civilisation and the capital of Greece. Approximately one hundred metres
above the city stands the Acropolis, which dates back to the 5th century BC, the golden age of Athens. We make a photo stop
at the foot of the famous steps before continuing our excursion.
We see the most famous monument in all its splendour: the Parthenon, built as a temple to honour the goddess Athena, the
patron deity of Athens.
Our panoramic tour continues in the direction of the imposing Panathenaic Stadium, the only large stadium in the world to be
built entirely of white marble. Traffic permitting, we have a short photo stop.
We continue our tour, driving past the University, the National Library, the National Academy and Syntagma Square, the
Greek Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
We leave the coach and set off on foot to explore the oldest part of Athens: Plaka, home to elegant neoclassical buildings,
ancient monuments and shops with an antique aura, interspersed with typical restaurants, cafés and boutiques. We admire in
awe the Old University, the Tower of the Winds, the Ancient Agora and the Choragic Monument to Lisicratus.
After a little of shopping, we return to our coach to continue on to the beautiful seafront at Mikrolimano, which means little
port in Greek. The small fishing boats sheltered here form the backdrop of a wonderful panorama. It is not surprising that this
port, second only to Piraeus, attracts tourists from all over Attica. In one of its many typical seafront restaurants, we sample
the delicious local cuisine, accompanied by the joyous melodies of sirtaki, typical Greek dancing.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

We pass the Corinth Canal to reach Mycenae, a "city rich in gold" with fascinating ruins, before finishing our excursion with a visit to

Mycenae, Lion Gate, tombs of Agamemnon, Aegisthus and Clytemnestra, Tomb of Atreus
Nafplio, Fortress of Palamidi
What we will do
Leaving the port of Piraeus behind us, we travel to Corinth where we make an unmissable stop to admire the spectacular
Corinth Canal. The road passes directly over the canal, offering a spectacular panoramic view point; be ready to be amazed by
this magnificent triumph of engineering! The canal is cut out of the rock, with cliffs that reach 79.5 metres at their highest
point.
We may be lucky enough to capture a photo of one of those rare moments when a ship is sailing beneath the viaduct as a
train passes overhead.
We continue on to Mycenae, described by Homer as the well-built Mycenae, rich in gold. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Zara
and Mount Agios Ilias, the city surprises us with fascinating ruins that bear witness to the splendour of the past.
We enter the archaeological site through the famous Lion Gate to visit the royal enclosure. The central section of tombs,
discovered in 1874 by the archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, contained the fabulous treasury of Agamemnon, now on
display at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
At the foot of the Acropolis of Mycenae, we visit the tombs of Agamemnon, Aegisthus and Clytemnestra. The largest and most
sophisticated of the Tholos (Beehive) tombs discovered in the city is that of the king. It is also known as the Treasury of Atreus
and has a 13 metre-high central burial chamber that emanates a sense of power and majesty.
We leave this place that is so rich in history, art and meaning and return to reality, proceeding to Nafplio to visit the stunning
Castle of Palamidi, which stands on a hill 216 metres above sea level to the east of Acronafplia, fortified by the Venetians
during their second occupation of the area (1686-1715). This imposing Baroque fortress was designed by Giaxich and
Lasalle. In 1715, it was captured by the Turks and remained under their control until 1822, when it was liberated by the
Greeks.
Before returning to the port, we enjoy a stroll through the stunning historic centre.

A journey through time to discover the history of the island of Crete, the cradle of a thousand-year old civilization and a treasure
chest of historic and natural wonders. From the palace that gave birth to the myth of the Minotaur to the characteristic village of

and a dive into its clear waters.
What we will see
Palace of Knossos
Kritsà and church of Panagia Kera
Agios Nikolaos and relaxation time on the beach
What we will do
Leaving Heraklion, we make our way to our first destination: Knossos, the ancient capital of the great kingdom of Minos which,
considering its area, is thought to have been home to 100,000 people. Testament to the ancient Minoan civilization, the
original Minoan palace dated to 1900 BC but was destroyed by an earthquake two hundred years later. It was reconstructed
in much more extravagant fashion in 1700 BC. The final catastrophe struck between 1500 and 1450 BC, when the
earthquake caused by the eruption of the Santorini volcano destroyed the royal residence for good.
Situated on the top of a hill, from which we enjoy a breathtaking view of the place where the city once stood, the palace is an
important testament to a civilization dating back to 3000 BC. Brought to light thanks to excavations by Sir Arthur Evans, the
palace is one of Greece's most important archaeological sites. We will visit the throne room, the storerooms, the central court

Panagia Kera, which dates back to the 13th century and is famous for its rural paintings still in excellent condition including
the Last Judgement, which depicts the joys of Paradise and the suffering of souls condemned to Hell. Among the scenes we
also recognise Saint Francis of Assisi, unusually depicted among the saints of the Greek Orthodox calendar.
We return to the coach to finish our day beautifully by visiting Agios Nikolaos, a wonderful coastal tourist town that will delight

very traditional articles, such as the famous fabrics with lace and crochet details.
We leave Kritsà to visit another of Crete's pearls: Agios Nikolaos, a renowned tourist town with a beautiful seafront where we
have time to walk and explore the small shops or take a break at one of the many open-air cafés.
We then head west where we will dive into history and mythology. Our visit concludes in beautiful surroundings at the
excavation site of the famous Palace of Knossos, linked to the Minos myth due to its labyrinthine structure. Situated on the top
of a hill, from which we enjoy a breathtaking view of the place where the city once stood, the palace is an important testament
to a civilization dating back to 3000 BC, an age in which the great King Minos reigned. Brought to light thanks to excavations
by Sir Arthur Evans, the palace is one of Greece's most important archaeological sites. We visit the throne room, the
storerooms, the central court and the imposing stairway, architectonic wonders that testify to the splendour of the island's
glorious Minoan past.
The excursion involves walking for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. We therefore recommended wearing comfortable shoes and
clothing.
This excursion is reserved for guests who are not leaving the ship at Heraklion.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

We will leave the port of Heraklion by coach to head for our first destination: the Palace of Knossos.

Still impressed by the historic and architectonic wonders of the Palace of Knossos, we re-board the coach and ready
ourselves for some Cretan culture in the characteristic village of Arolithos. Reconstructed using the same techniques that were
used in the past, this village will charm is with its otherworldly atmosphere. We will walk along the pebbled streets, home to
traditional crafts shops where the artisans produce ceramics and inlaid wooden articles. We are struck by the scent of bread
as we pass in front of the traditional bakery and are enchanted by the small village church and the traditional "Cafenion" café.
Before returning to the port, we will retrace the history of Cretan culture by visiting the Museum of agricultural history and
popular art.

composed of a series of fortified buildings. Legend has it that it was built by Emperor Flavius Heraclius Augustus e
reconstructed around the 5th century by Byzantine emperor Arcadius, from whom it takes its name, while other sources
report that it was founded by a monk named Arcadius.
The central courtyard is beautiful and houses the church dedicated to Saint Constantine, Saint Helen and Our Father. The
monastery also symbolises the fight for independence from the Turks. In 1866, many Cretan people took refuge here to
defend themselves from the Ottomans and, rather than surrender, they blew up the armoury , sacrificing their own lives.
We will continue on to Rethymno, capital of a region whose great cultural heritage dates back to the Minoan age and has its
main centre in Cydonia. There is, almost unexpectedly, a Venetian atmosphere in the historic city centre (palia poli): the
Venetians in fact, having conquered the island, decided to create a commercial base here, between Heraklion and Chania.
Every corner of the city is still imbued its old, aristocratic character, from the 16th century buildings to the arched porticoes,
from the stone stairs to magnificent remains from the Greek, Roman and Byzantine eras, from the maze of streets to the
small Venetian port. In the ancient Venetian loggia we find the information office of the Ministry of Culture.
Our visit continues on to the Fortress, which also dates to the Venetian age and is one of Crete's best preserved castles. All
that remains is for us to visit the other places of interest, the marvellous Neratze mosque, which was completed in 1657, the
Guora Gate the main gate of the 16th century wall and lastly, Rimondi square.
Before returning to the port, we will have some free time in which to explore every corner of this marvellous city, a rare
treasure of art and history.
Space is limited, so please reserve early.

What we will do
We will get off the coach and head towards the Dead Sea, which despite its name is not a sea but a salt water lake on the
Jordan-Israel border. The lake is 415 metres deep below sea level, in the lowest depression of the earth's surface.
The Dead Sea has always attracted visitors from all over the world and the time has come for us to relax: firstly, with a
delicious buffet in a modern and comfortable hotel, then with the unique experience of floating in the salty waters of the Dead
Sea after covering ourselves in peloid mud, rich in minerals, silicates and carbonates, certified by the world's most prestigious
cosmetics brands for its beneficial therapeutic effects. In addition, due to their high salt content, the waters of the Dead Sea
prevent the development of any form of life, while offering a wealth of minerals.
During the excursion, we will stop in a local shop where you will be able to buy handmade souvenirs such as Dead Sea beauty
products.
Don't forget to bring swimwear. Bath towels are provided at the hotel.
The high temperature and high concentration of salt of the Dead Sea waters may cause swimwear to discolour.
The maximum time allowed for bathing in the Dead Sea is 20 minutes.
The maximum time we recommend you spend in direct sunlight is 15-20 minutes.
This excursion is not recommended for guests with low blood pressure or heart problems.
Bathing in the waters of the Dead Sea is not recommended for those under the age of 7 years.

Description
A fascinating and evocative excursion to two towns in Galilee that are of prime importance to the Christian tradition: Nazareth, with
the Church of the Annunciation, and Yardenit, where Jesus was baptised.
What we will see
Nazareth: Church of the Annunciation
Yardenit: site of the baptism of Jesus, ceremony to renew baptismal promises
What we will do
We will set off by coach from the port of Haifa for the town of Nazareth and in particular the Church of the Annunciation, the
largest church in the Middle East and one of the most important Christian sanctuaries in the world.
According to Christian tradition, the church was built on the site of the house of the Virgin Mary, where the Archangel Gabriel
is said to have appeared to Mary to announce that she would become the Mother of Jesus.
Built in 1969, the modern church was commissioned from the architect Giovanni Muzio by the Franciscans. In the courtyard
outside the church, a curious mix of portraits of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child from all over the world create a sacred
and ecumenical atmosphere. Below the level of the church, we will have the opportunity to admire a 5th-century Byzantine
church, built around the Grotto of the Annunciation.
We will set off by coach from this evocative place to Yardenit, a town located on the banks of the River Jordan that plays host
every day to pilgrims from all over the world who have come to see the place where Jesus was baptised. A unique opportunity
awaits us here: the chance to renew our baptismal promises by taking part in an intimate group ceremony before immersing
ourselves in the waters of the most sacred of rivers.
Clothing that is appropriate for the places of worship to be visited is recommended (ladies are expected to wear a scarf
covering shoulders and arms; neither ladies nor gents are allowed to wear shorts).
We recommend wearing a swimming costume for the baptism ceremony in the River Jordan.
A tunic provided on site must be worn in the changing rooms.

What we will do
We will set off from the port of Haifa for Nazareth, where we will be able to visit the Church of the Annunciation, the largest

Our excursion then continues to Capernaum, a town known to the Christian tradition for being the place where Jesus began

A visit to the imposing fortress of Masada and the benefits of the waters of the Dead Sea: a journey in search of culture and
relaxation in a charming location.
What we will see
Masada Fortress
Dead Sea
What we will do
We will leave the port of Haifa and travel to Masada. The fortress there is sadly known for the Roman army's siege during the
first Jewish-Roman war and its tragic conclusion in 73 AD.
After a brief journey, we will reach the top of the mountain where we can see, right before our eyes, a view of the
incomparable beauty of the surrounding rocky desert and the Dead Sea.
Our guide will accompany us through the ruins of the ancient fortress built by Herod the Great in 42 BC as a potential refuge
in the event of a Jewish revolt or unrest incited by Mark Antony and Cleopatra.
After the fall of Jerusalem in 73 BC, over 960 Jews, some of them soldiers, women and children, barricaded themselves
inside the fortress to protect themselves from attack by Roman soldiers. The sight which lay before the Romans when they
finally reached the fortress to intrude with force, was terrible: the Jews, in fact, preferred mass suicide to slavery.
Upon completion of this fascinating visit, we will leave the fortress and head in the direction of the Dead Sea, a salt water lake
which was formed 2 million years ago in a valley about 400 metres below sea level.
When we arrive, we will be welcomed into a modern, comfortable hotel where we can relax and delight our palates with a
delicious, fresh buffet.
After lunch, we can enjoy some free time relaxing on the beach or having a dip in the lake to take advantage of the beneficial
properties of the salt water and experience the incredible feeling of floating effortlessly on the surface of the water.
Comfortable shoes or trekking boots are recommended.
Don't forget to bring swimwear. Bath towels are provided at the hotel.

What we will do
We depart from Aqaba and head towards Petra, the "rose-red city half as old as time". Petra remained unknown for centuries,
hidden between the mountains of southern Jordan. Founded by the Nabataeans, a Bedouin Arab tribe, which arrived from
Arabia 2,000 years ago, the fortress-city of Petra became an important stronghold, protecting the many passing caravans.
The city only became famous in 1812, when it was discovered by a young Swiss explorer and revealed to the world.
Subsequently it became a film set for the film, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" by Steven Spielberg.
After leaving the coach, we walk towards the entrance to the "Siq", the bed of a narrow serpentine river which winds through
the gorge for approximately two and a half kilometres.
Imposing rock faces soar up to a hundred metres on both sides. Out of the darkness emerges the sparkle of the The Treasury
hewn into the rock, forty metres high and thirty metres wide.
In addition to the Treasury, we visit the magnificent temples, royal tombs, the amphitheatre and the burial chambers built by
the Romans who took control of the city in 106 AD, and which represent an addition to the already existing Nabataean tombs
and monuments, creating a city sculpted from rock.

What we will see
The Siq
The Treasury* The Royal Tombs
The Byzantine Monastery
Mountains with Glowing colours
Breathtaking Cliffs
What we will do
Once we arrive in Petra, accompanied by a local guide, who is an expert on nature trails, we enter the heart of the Siq, to visit
the magnificent Treasury, a building hewn out of the rock to serve as a burial chamber and probably a temple, as the
distinctive capitals and columns of the magnificent façade would suggest.
After taking photographs, we head to the Royal Tombs, which hold the most important members of the ancient Nabataean
tribe.
After a short stop to observe the details of these splendid buildings we are ready to face the most challenging and fascinating
part of our walking tour. We climb to the highest peak to visit a beautifully carved ancient building of Nabataean origin, which
became a Monastery during the Byzantine period. It was initially intended as the burial chamber of the Nabataean King,
Obodas I.
An unexpected wonder unfolds before our eyes. Nestled in the very heart of Nature between the summits with their thousand
different shapes and shades, the impressive cliffs which flow into canyons and the rocky deserts, we cannot help but silently
admire the strength and splendour of Nature and the skill of the ancient populations who decided to establish their homes
and places of worship in this very location.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
The excursion involves walking for about 5 hours, including climbing 800 steps on a rock-cut path, dirt roads and steep
sections.
We recommend always wearing walking shoes and suitable, warm and comfortable clothing.
This experience is only suitable for adult guests who are accustomed to long distance mountain walking.

The Siq
The Treasury
Roman tombs, theatres and monuments
What we will do
We head from the port towards Petra, known as the "Pink City": Petra remained unknown for a long time, hidden between the
mountains of southern Jordan. Founded by the Nabataeans, a Bedouin Arab tribe, which arrived from Arabia 2,000 years
ago, the city resembled a fortress which was built to protect the many passing caravans.
The northern area of Petra, known as Siq al-Barid, 9 km to the north of the city of Wadi Musa, is presented to visitors as "Little
Petra", with its high gorges and walls hewn deep into the rock. This location has managed to maintain an atmosphere and
tranquillity which is no longer found in the central area of Petra; as we enter, we realise why it is called ("the cold Siq"): sunlight
hardly ever manages to penetrate the gorge to heat it.
Just 300 metres in length, the Siq has alternate narrower passages and wider areas where we find various buildings carved
into the rock: stairways, temples and triclinia, dining areas most probably used to provide merchants and travellers with
refreshment, occupy almost every available surface area. The stairs cut into the rock go in both directions creating a route with
different levels which in the past buzzed with life. A young Swiss explorer introduced the beauty of Petra to the world after
discovering it in 1812. More recently, the city became a film set for the popular film, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" by
Steven Spielberg.
We then arrive in the heart of this mysterious city: a narrow path leads us into the entrance of the Siq, originally a river bed
and today a very narrow, descending road, which crosses the gorge over a distance of 2.5 km.
We see the rock faces which soar like majestic towers, 91 metres high, and in the final stretch of darkness, the dazzling
façade of the The Treasury appears; 42 metres of solid rock.
Further along, we see the temples that are as high as towers, royal tombs, Roman theatres, buried gravestones, houses of
different sizes and public buildings. The ancient Romans made Petra one of the most unique cities in the world, creating an
extraordinary collection of sculptures and monuments from 106 AC, the year they assumed power.
On the return journey, we take the same route to return to Aqaba.
The excursion includes lunch in a restaurant and free time to purchase local souvenirs.
No food or drinks are allowed on the site.

Site of the 14 camel-hoof-shaped prints of the She-Camel of the Prophet Salih
Al Husn Palace
What we will do
Capital of the region of Dhofar, former kingdom of Queen Saba, in south Oman, Salalah is known as the perfume capital.
Located along the incense trail, it is a jewel tucked away between the blue of the Indian Ocean and the unexpected deep
green of its mountains.
Our half-day excursion to Salalah, an important place even in terms of its historic and archaeological outline, begins with a visit
to the archaeological site of Al-Balid, which houses elements attesting the cultural, historic and archaeological heritage of the
entire region.
We will then head to the Shanfari Mosque visiting the outside and stop to take photographs.
We will continue our tour to Al Husn Souk, the old, evocative market where incense, materials, gold and silver are sold.
Subsequently, we will visit the site of the 14 camel-hoof-shaped prints of the She-Camel of the Prophet Salih.
Finally, we will pass by the Al Husn Palace, the summer residency of His Highness, Sultan Qaboos.

In Jebel Qara we will visit the evocative tomb of Prophet Ayoub, better known by his biblical name Job.
We will proceed to Mughsail, and admire the beautiful landscape which lies before us during our journey.
Amongst the magnificent beaches located to the west of Salalah, Mughsail is one of the best known for its "sea geysers", which
emerge from the rocky protrusions just before the coast. With a little luck, as it is not always possible to rely on natural
phenomena, we will see sensational water jets and lather coming out of the natural openings dug into the rock and which, at
times, can reach up to 15 metres.
We will then head to the Al Husn Souk, the old market where we will have some free time for shopping and purchasing local,
artisan products.
Before returning to the port, we will end our excursion with a scenic tour of Salalah.

From Taqah we will head to the Bay of Khor Rori, where it is believed the destroyed city of Sumhuram once stood, capital of
the exotic incense trade of ancient Arabia. In ancient times, Dhofar was an important hub for incense trading. It is no
coincidence that the Three Wise Men whom brought this gift to Baby Jesus came from Dhofar. Presently, incense is not used
as it once was and these trees are now only found in a few locations (Yemen and Oman). The excavations served to prove the
existence of an ancient inhabited centre which held maritime commercial relationships with the Far East as well as far-off
Greece. Additionally, it is believed that this is the place where the palace from the legend of the Queen of Saba stood, which is
presently in ruins and undergoing restoration.
We will stop for lunch in a hotel in Salalah.
On the return to the ship, we will stop in Mughsail: Three kilometres of marvellous white, unspoilt beaches, framed by high
cliffs on both sides and numerous picnic areas. These extremely white beaches are known for their sea geysers: with a bit of
luck, we will see sensational water jets coming out of the natural openings dug into the rock and which, at times, can reach up
to 15 metres.
Finally, we will visit the souk, an old market where we will have some free time for shopping.

What we will do
We will leave the port of Mina Qaboos and after a journey of approximately two and a half hours we will arrive in Nizwa, a city
in the country's hinterland that was once its historic capital. From here we go to Jabrin Fort, probably the most beautiful and

majestic example of defensive architecture with many interesting artefacts preserved inside, as well as everyday objects of the
time.
At the end of the visit we will have lunch at the Falaj Daris Hotel.

visited monument in the country. The e*normous round central watchtower* with a diameter of 45 metres which took 30
years to build is particularly impressive. From the top of the tower we can enjoy a magnificent view of the city, the mosque and
the mountains that surround Nizwa.

Leaving the dock behind us, we begin our tour of Abu Dhabi, a city situated on a small peninsula, surrounded by a tiny
archipelago. Founded in 1761 by the Bani Yas tribe, the name of the city, which means “father of the gazelle”, was chosen as
a tribute to the legend, according to which it was a gazelle to lead the first tribe to a fresh water spring in Abu Dhabi.
Our first photo stop will be in Al Ittihad Square, whose name means "union" in Arabic, to immortalise the spectacular, white
ivory monuments, including a large coffee-pot and an incense burner symbolising renowned Arabic hospitality and its
centuries-old tradition.

Next we will visit Sheikh Zayed Exhibition, a museum housed in an Emirati heritage village replete with camels, in an incredible
homage to the man who shaped the nation. A photo gallery of Sheikh Zayed and many visiting regional and international
royalty and dignitaries lines the walls of the museum, which is also full of personal memorabilia such as his favourite hunting
rifles. Taking centre stage are the late President's cherished vehicles - which he often drove through the city without a
bodyguard - and gifts he received from all over the world such as stuffed lions and cheetahs. We will continue with a stop at
the Marina Café, where there will be time for another photo stop to immortalise the spectacular skyline of Abu Dhabi.
We then come to the Heritage Village, which houses a small museum and reconstructed homes which illustrate the day-to-
day activities of the local community, before oil was discovered at the end of the 50s.
Now it’s time for the spectacular*Corniche*, the splendid waterfront that extends for several kilometres, lined by numerous
ultramodern, glass skyscrapers and elegant residential complexes, which have earned Abu Dhabi the title of “Manhattan of the
Persian Gulf".
We end our tour at the breakwater, from where we can admire the superb panorama of the extraordinary city skyline.

western modernity ready to be discovered on this fascinating tour
What we will see

What we will do
The first stop on our tour takes us outside the famous Burj Al Arab hotel, where we can take incredible photos of its distinctive
sail-shaped structure.
We then board the coach again and head for the Jumeirah mosque, a stunning example of Islamic architecture that we can
immortalise in unforgettable photos.
In complete contrast with what we have just seen, our coach then takes us to the Al Bastakiya district, an area that has
preserved the historic heritage of the time when oil was first struck. The walls of the houses still enclose charming gardens
where we can still catch a glimpse of decorations which once lavishly adorned them. The most intriguing part of these places is
the presence of so-called barjeel towers: wind towers that rise above the rooftops channelling wind to the gardens and rooms
below for cooling. These towers have become a symbol of the district.
Another noteworthy attraction in this area is the Al Fahidi fort that dates back to the 18th century and is now home to the
Dubai Museum.
We then leave our coach to cross the distinctive Dubai Creek on an abra, a wooden boat used as a kind of river taxi, to visit
the spice market.
Our last stop will be the immense Gold Souk where we can find exquisite pieces of jewellery cheaper than anywhere else in
the world.

Our exciting excursion will start at the Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made building in history. Our visit to the skyscraper will
begin at the reception on the ground floor with a multimedia presentation on the fascinating history of Dubai and the Burj
Khalifa.
From the reception, we take an exhilarating ride in the lift at a speed of 10 metres per second, up to the 124th floor where
we can admire the 360° panoramic view of the city, the desert and the ocean.
Next, we will admire the super-luxury Burj Al Arab hotel and take some stunning photos of this distinctive sail-shaped building
located on an artificial island.
Our next destination is the fascinating Palm Jumeirah, a huge artificial island with luxury resorts and hotels that has been
labelled the "eighth wonder of the world", and a residential area where we stop to take photos along the artificial 12
kilometres long breakwater.
Our last stop will be The Observatory restaurant in the Marriott Harbour hotel, where we can sip a refreshing aperitif whilst
enjoying stunning views from a height of 200 metres of the sun setting over the sea, with breathtaking flashes of colour over
Dubai Marina and the Palm Jumeirah.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Being one of the main attractions of the city, there is the possibility of finding long queues at the entrance.?
Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended.
Due to the marked variations in temperature between the sites visited on this excursion and the air-conditioned vehicles, we
recommend you bring a light, cotton pullover.
You need to be physically fit to take part in this excursion.

What we will do
Our exciting excursion will take us to a height of 1,500 feet to soar over the wonderful Dubai landscape and relish a new,
once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We fly in a Cessna 208 Caravan, a 9-seater seaplane with all the modern comforts: Luxury leather seats with an exceptional
view thanks to the large side windows, and an air conditioning system that cools the entire cabin.
Our exciting air adventure begins in the sea as we take off from the waters of the Dubai Creek.
As soon as we take-off on our 20-minute seaplane tour we are thrilled with wonderful aerial views from a privileged viewpoint
as we fly over the wonderful skyscrapers and engineering feats that characterize Dubai: the recently-built residential district of
Dubai Marina (completed in 2006), the famous and scenic Palm Jumeirah, the 7-star Burj Al Arab hotel, the spectacular
Atlantis hotel, the Burj Khalifa skyscraper (the tallest in the world), the historic Dubai Creek, Port Rashid and the artificial "The
World" archipelago.

What we will do
We get on a comfortable double-decker coach offering great views from the first-level windows as well as the thrill of feeling

There are over 38 stops with the “hop-on, hop-off” formula where we can get on and off as we please and choose what

Three different routes are available: the Red City Tour lasts approximately 2 hours, the Green Beach Tour lasts 2 hours and
20 minutes and the Blue Marina Tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes. As we have the whole day available, we are truly spoilt for
choice!
While comfortably seated on the coach, we can listen to the interesting audioguides (available in 12 different languages)
providing information on the monuments and sights that can be admired on the way.
How can we resist the temptation of admiring the towering Burj Khalifa, the tallest sky-scraper in the world, or the luxurious
Burj Al Arab, the famous 7-star hotel whose unique sail shape has turned it into a symbol of the city? No problem: all of
Dubai’s gems are within easy reach on this tour!
And getting back to the port is also not a problem: a return shuttle departs ever 30 minutes from stop no. 2 of the circuit.
