Caetano Veloso after thirty years, is still one of Brazil’s most important musicians. He mixes

rock with the music of the Bahia region. Bahia is a state of Brazil that is strongly influenced by

African culture. Caetano Veloso is an excellent songwriter and poet. He says of this music, “I

make my songs like a painter paints his canvas.”

Bonnie Raitt is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Her music blends rock with

Situation: Scott and Becky are visiting the Metropolitan Art Museum.

Scott: This museum has some interesting pictures from the Renaissance. All of them are original paintings. Look! There’s a picture of an old machine.

Becky: Yes. That’s Gutenberg’s printing press. He invented it in 1450. It’s a beautiful piece of art. It keeps the original colors.

Scott: Look at this big picture. Its physical condition is bad. It’s Columbus. The description says that he discovered America in 1492. Is that Vasco da Gama’s picture over there?

Becky: Yes. Look at its framework. It’s very new, luxurious and expensive but it’s not nice. The painting is in a good condition. What about Michelangelo’s statue of David?

Scott: The description says Michelangelo sculpted the statue of David in 1501. Look at David's virile figure, it is the representation of the elegance and beauty of the human being. This weekend I went to two different concerts, one classical and the other tropical. On Friday night I went to the classical music concert with my parents . It took place at a tiny auditorium in San José. Fortunately , it wasn’t too hot inside just warm. I enjoyed the music , some songs were sad , but I’ve always enjoyed tropical music and the artists interpreted my favorite pieces. On Saturday night I attended the tropical concert, some friends joined me, it was a public park in Alajuela . It was a cold

night, but I took a coat with me so I was OK. The songs had so much rhythm that I even danced at times.Unfortunately, the event wasn’t very well organized, but we still had a good time. This weekend was fantastic! I wish they could all be like this. Best Regards Peter
