COUGAR NEWS January 15, 2018 No. 05 Clavet School ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE Welcoming the New Year is traditionally accompanied with resolutions and goals. We encourage our students to reflect on the goals they set at the beginning of the school year. The key to accomplishing those goals is to reflect on the successes and challenges of our ongoing efforts, and to refocus our efforts with renewed purpose. I encourage you to help your children to discuss the things that may be challenging them from accomplishing their goals, and to help celebrate the progress that they have made thus far. This is also the time of year when we begin to make preparations for next year. We are now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2018/2019 school year. According to Prairie Spirit School Division policy, children who are five years of age as of December 31 of the school year may be admitted to kindergarten. Please note that parents still have the choice to hold their child back from starting if they feel their child is not ready for kindergarten. This is most commonly applicable to children whose birthdays fall in the last three months of the year. If you’re not sure your child is ready, please feel free to discuss it with Mrs. Fitzsimmons or Mrs. Wessel. If you have a student you expect to start kindergarten next year, please take the opportunity to contact the school for a registration form. Registration forms can also be found on the school’s website. Complete the registration form and return it to the school office as soon as possible to help support academic planning for your children for next year. If you know others in our community to whom this applies, please put them in contact with the school. I know the thought of entering school is a very exciting time for young children and their parents. Please contact us if you have any questions about the process and expectations. Although we don’t have a winter open house, we can set up opportunities to tour the school and meet the teacher. Later in the spring, we will have an information meeting for kindergarten parents to explain the process and answer any questions you may have. Before the end of June we will also have an open house for the parents and children to attend, and to take an orientation bus ride. If you have a younger student whom you feel would benefit from school programming, we also have application forms available for our PreKindergarten program. This is a morning program held Monday through Thursday for three and four-year-old children. Our school has a limit of 16 spots available for this program. As next year’s kindergarten students and parents prepare to start their time in school, our grade 12 students and parents have begun their preparations for graduation. We have Lakeview Church booked for Friday, June 8. Traditionally, we have had a parent information meeting to discuss grad. However, we have noticed that it is challenging for the majority of parents to attend the meeting. This year we plan to send the information out electronically. We will be meeting with the students and sending the presentation after exams. We request that you review the information and respond if you are interested in serving on a parent grad committee. We will then schedule a meeting of interested committee members to plan the evening’s activities. Happy 2018!

NEWS January 15, 2018 No. 05 Clavet School

ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE Welcoming the New Year is traditionally accompanied with resolutions and goals. We encourage

our students to reflect on the goals they set at the beginning of the school year. The key to

accomplishing those goals is to reflect on the successes and challenges of our ongoing efforts, and to

refocus our efforts with renewed purpose. I encourage you to help your children to discuss the things

that may be challenging them from accomplishing their goals, and to help celebrate the progress that they

have made thus far.

This is also the time of year when we begin to make preparations for next year. We are now

accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2018/2019 school year. According to Prairie Spirit School

Division policy, children who are five years of age as of December 31 of the school year may be admitted

to kindergarten. Please note that parents still have the choice to hold their child back from starting if

they feel their child is not ready for kindergarten. This is most commonly applicable to children whose

birthdays fall in the last three months of the year. If you’re not sure your child is ready, please feel free

to discuss it with Mrs. Fitzsimmons or Mrs. Wessel. If you have a student you expect to start

kindergarten next year, please take the opportunity to contact the school for a registration form.

Registration forms can also be found on the school’s website. Complete the registration form and return

it to the school office as soon as possible to help support academic planning for your children for next

year. If you know others in our community to whom this applies, please put them in contact with the

school.

I know the thought of entering school is a very exciting time for young children and their parents.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the process and expectations. Although we don’t have a

winter open house, we can set up opportunities to tour the school and meet the teacher. Later in the

spring, we will have an information meeting for kindergarten parents to explain the process and answer

any questions you may have. Before the end of June we will also have an open house for the parents and

children to attend, and to take an orientation bus ride.

If you have a younger student whom you feel would benefit from school programming, we also have

application forms available for our PreKindergarten program. This is a morning program held Monday

through Thursday for three and four-year-old children. Our school has a limit of 16 spots available for

this program.

HEALTHY PROMOTING SCHOOL TEAM

The Healthy Promoting School team continues to look for ways

to give students access to healthy snacks. In the past, they

have organized veggie days where each student received

fresh veggies and dip. The HPS team would like to continue

handing out vegetables but on a more regular basis. The plan is to

have fresh veggies in bags for students to grab on the go. The elementary

students would have veggie bags on odd days and the high school on even days. However

they are in need of some assistance. The HPS team is looking for volunteers to help with

cutting up the veggies. If you are here early to pick up your son/daughter from a

basketball practice, drama practice or have extra time to help out, any assistance would

be greatly appreciated. Starting next Wednesday, the vegetables will be in the servery

upstairs ready to be cut up. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please

contact Brian at the office. The HPS team thanks you in advance for volunteering your

time to the students of Clavet School!

COUGAR NEWS ELEMENTARY WINTER FESTIVAL

Clavet’s Grade 8 students will be hosting the annual Elementary

Winter Festival on Thursday, February 1 (weather permitting). The

festival will take the full school day and all elementary students (K –

6) should come prepared to spend extended periods of time

outside. If the weather is extremely cold, we will look at having

the festival on the alternate date of Monday, February 5. The

festival includes fun outdoor activities such as relay races, street

hockey, and toboggan races. There will also be a hot chocolate station,

which is especially nice if it is quite cold outside! If you would like to help out as a

Group Supervisor for the day, please contact Madame Brochu at the school anytime.

More information will be coming home shortly with notes from school.

ART & PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP 2019 Any current grade 9-11 students who are interested in coming on

an art and photography trip to New York City during Easter

break 2019, there will be a meeting on February 6th at 6:00 pm

in the art room. For more information please contact Mrs. Dyck

at [email protected]

CHRISTMAS BANQUET

A big thank you to all of our parent volunteers for helping make the

Christmas banquet a great success once again!

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS

I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all of you

who donated to our Christmas Hamper Program!

We gave hampers containing food and gifts to

15 families. We wouldn’t have been able to

support as many families as we did without your help! Your

kindness and generosity are greatly

appreciated. I would also like to extend a

special thank you to Mr. Lundquist, his family and friends, as well as

to Mr. Malainey, for their tremendous support in making this

program possible!

Sincerely,

Tanya Kennedy

CLAVET FOOTBALL

It's hard to believe with the cold weather we've been having, but spring

football registration is now open. Season starts beginning of May and

wraps up the weekend before school is out. If interested please go

to saskatoonminorfootball.com to register. Here are the team codes for

Clavet age groups:

Flag Football

Colts Grade 1-2: j5c0 (last digit is zero)

Stamps Grade 3-4: q4d3

No team code for Grades 5-6 (if enough interest a team will be formed)

Cost $120.00

Includes a home and away t-shirt

Generally there is one practice a week (determined by coach) and all games are held on

Saturdays.

Tackle Football

Grades 5-6 and 7-8 can register for six a side tackle, but a team code cannot be

created. Just use the drop downs under nearest school/community and put Clavet for

both elementary and high school. Tackle requires a little more commitment as there is a

lot more to learn. There will be two practices a week and all games are on Thursdays

nights.

Cost $400.00

Includes all equipment except girdle, cleats and mouth guard

Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control, fees increased substantially (especially

for tackle). Clavet Minor Football will be discussing possible fundraising to help offset

the increase in fees, so that it can be affordable for all families. If parents/students

are interested in coaching please call Chad @ (306)281-5225. If there are any

other questions or clarifications needed, please don't hesitate to call. There is also a

Clavet Minor Football Facebook page that generally has updates and info.

“RR” BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Still a few spots available for the 2017-2018 school

year. This program is run out of the Clavet School

Library. Childcare for before, after or both are

available. Please contact me for a registration form or

more info. I can be reached by email at

[email protected] or text 306-260-6646. Please share with anyone you know might be in need of my program!!!

Thank you!
