We want to make it as easy as possible for our wonderful supporters to visit us so we have moved offices to Level 3 above the hospital’s main entrance and we are hoping to have a new “charity hub” coming to the main entrance later in 2017. We hope everyone will stop to say “hello” as they come in to the hospital.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for first ever Colour Run in September. Around 500 runners came along for the event raising thousands for various departments around the hospital. There are lots of amazing photos
on our Facebook page. We’re now getting ready for this year’s Jingle Jog on Sunday 3rd December – why not register now: derbyhospitalscharity.org.uk/events
Once again we’ve been busy meeting many wonderful fundraisers and supporters (pages 4 to 8), our mascot Lambie has also been out and about and if you fancy taking on the challenge of a lifetime you can find out all about Global Adventure Challenges on page 3.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue of Exchange. We want to

Derby Hospitals Charity’s new £3m appeal to target cancerCancer can touch us all in some way throughout our lives, whether directly or through a family member or friend. Radiotherapy treatment is one of the tools that will help beat cancer in the East Midlands.
The DART appeal aims to raise £3 million for a fourth linear accelerator to offer more timely radiotherapy treatments to help patients fit treatment in around their daily lives and to re-develop the existing small waiting room and courtyard into a new light and airy reception and waiting area.
“We are planning to ensure that all our machines are the latest models, with the capability to provide the most up to date treatment techniques and deliver the best chance of successful outcome for our patients.”
Lorna Macdonald (Radiotherapy Services Manager)
For more information on the DART Appeal contact Michael Bolton on [email protected]
Clive’s StoryClive was having problems passing water. This was painful and, as his work involved a lot of travelling, it was embarrassing to stand at urinals for minutes at a time unable to urinate. His GP sent him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
As Clive was self-employed it was important he could carry on with his business of building children’s playgrounds. Radiotherapy treatment was chosen rather than surgery as it meant he could continue to work and arrange his daily hospital appointments around his working day.
Clive still works and he still travels to work, often in London, but after 37 sessions is pain free and able to live a normal life.
The DART Appeal will ensure that Derby Radiotherapy Centre has a bright future serving the people of Derbyshire and South Staffordshire with world class Radiotherapy services.

Hi! My name is Lambie and I am Derby Hospitals Charity’s mascot!
I have been with the charity for a few months now and
I am amazed at the warm reception I’ve had from all the
staff and patients. Thank you for all being so friendly!
Thank you for inviting me to lots of fun events. I have
been to help Viv and her Fab 4 Fundraisers collect for
their Great Wall of China trek, popped along to a police
information day in the children’s hospital and even tried
Ping Pong. It is not easy to play with a hoof in a sling!
Oxygen Freejumping Park kindly sponsored our Colour Run
so we went along to meet them and their mascot, Big O
and had a lovely time.
It has been fantastic to go along to lots of events
to support our amazing fundraisers. I’ve met lots of
fundraisers who have taken part in marathons and
sponsored runs for us and whilst saying hello to the
amazing children at the Shining Stars Nursery, I was
honoured to meet the Mayor and Mayoress.
