Message from the CEO
www.wyalkatchem.wa.gov.au
As the recently appointed
CEO for the Shire of
Wyalkatchem, I wish to
take this opportunity to
thank elected members,
staff and the Wyalkatchem
community for their warm
welcome.
In my first month as CEO,
my focus has been getting to understand Council
and the Wyalkatchem community’s aspirations
and direction, establishing an understanding of
our current position and identifying priorities for
the future.
I am a strong advocate of community
engagement and open communication. I believe
understanding a community is about being
actively engaged with community members and
groups and over the next few months I hope to
be able to meet with more of you. Please feel
free to let me know when your club or
organisation is holding a meeting or event and I
will endeavour to attend.
It is my intention to ensure that our community is
well informed on Council’s operations and
activities, we will look to improve
communications, by the way of a “revamped”
Council newsletter, social media engagement,
including Facebook, and completing several
upgrades and improvements on our website.
This, being my first “Message from the CEO” and
being new to the community, I thought I would
give you a little background on
myself.
I have worked in Local Government for the past
20 years, with the most recent being 10 years as
Deputy CEO at the Shire of Corrigin. I love being
involved in rural towns and working alongside
passionate people who care about their
community, quality of life and the values which
they live by.
I have adult twin daughters who reside in Perth;
Kaitlyn who has just graduated as a Chiropractor,
and Mikayla who is studying nursing and
currently going through the St John Ambulance
application process to become a paramedic.
I have been a St John Ambulance volunteer for
the last 6 years and have joined the
Wyalkatchem sub centre, and look forward to
working alongside other local volunteers.
I am a passionate netballer, I love playing,
umpiring and coaching and am a West Coast
Fever member.
Again, thank you for the warm welcome, I look forward to meeting and working with the community.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Community Sport Infrastructure grant program
Federal Member for Durack, Melissa Price, encourages local sporting groups in Durack to apply for
funding for a national $29.7million program aimed at upgrading community sport infrastructure.
The Community Sport Infrastructure grant program was launched by Federal Sports Minister Bridget
McKenzie, enabling sport and community organisations to apply for grants up to $500,000 to upgrade
sporting infrastructure in 2018-19.
Ms Price urges local sporting groups to consider projects that would help build participation in physical
activity, community partnerships and inclusiveness.
“Sporting facilities are vital for inspiring physical activity and health, but also for building community spirit
and pride,” Ms Price said.
“I encourage sport and community groups to collaborate and think about projects that could enhance our
facilities in the Durack electorate. Even the smallest of facility projects can have a big impact on boosting
local business, economy, health and social cohesiveness.
“Improving lighting, playing surfaces and accessibility for different ages and genders are just some of the
ways sporting facilities can be made safer and more appealing.”
The program will be managed by Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s leading agency for sport
and physical activity.
Applications will remain open until September 14 and more information on the Community Sport
Infrastructure grant program can be found at https://www.sportaus.gov.au/grants_and_funding/
