PROGRAMME
Alice Springs Town Council provides subsidised exercise programmes for people with, or at risk of, chronic health conditions. Programmes are held at various locations.
INFORMATION FOR GPs AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WISHING TO
REFER PATIENTS Council’s referral process to these exercise programmes is simple and easy.If you are not familiar with the referral process, please contact our Healthy Communities Coordinator for more information.All exercise professionals contracted to deliver Council’s Healthy Communities programmes are accredited to prescribe exercise for people with chronic health conditions.Professional training of Council’s contracted exercise professionals includes a minimum Certificate IV in Fitness and additional accreditations in chronic disease exercise programmes including Lift for Life, Heartmoves & the Joint Movement (Arthritis & Musculoskeletal conditions).

Benefits of regular exercise include:• Maintaining/improving general health, wellbeing & fitness• Maintaining/improving cardiovascular and respiratory health & function• Maintaining/improving muscle strength and balance• Maintaining/enhancing posture & flexibility• Maintaining/enhancing bone density and joint stability• Decreasing muscle/joint pain• Improving sleep, self-esteem and stamina• Improving psychological health• Increased social interaction
Suitable for people of all ages and abilities.An exercise programme for residents at Old Timers & Flynn Lodge. Partners/spouses welcome.

An exercise programme suitable for people with chronic health conditions. Exercises include strength, balance, cardiovascular and flexibility. A referral from your GP or allied health professional is recommended.Chronic health conditions can include, but are not limited to:• Arthritis & musculoskeletal conditions• Chronic lung or airways conditions• Diabetes• Cardiac disease or post-cardiac event recovery• Mental health conditions or cognitive impairment• Obesity• Cancer
An aquatic based programme suitable for people with, or recovering from joint replacements, injuries, arthritis and other health conditions.
When: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10:30am
Where: Alice Springs Aquatic & Leisure Centre (ASALC), Speed Street
Cost: Casual Concession - $8.20 All memberships at ASALC include Aqua
Classes, which can reduce programme cost down to $2.15 per session

When: Saturdays 7:00amWhere: Commencing from the Andy McNeil
Room, Civic Centre, Todd Mall The last Saturday of every month the walk will commence from a different location.
Cost: FREE
Dogs on leashes are welcome
Please send your referral to Council’s Healthy Communities Coordinator to arrange an assessment for the programme.
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (various sessions daily)
