+aton/s ward borders the cit*owned propert' which claims to be Canada/s largest entertainmentand events site.

$4ne (the CNE, is a ma3or event in this cit that impacts m communit and the other is anenormous cit asset directl ad3acent to the communit represent. t makes perfect sense that

 would serve in both capacities.&

" cit solicitor has assured him there is no conflict of interest' he added. But a ma3or source of conflict between the two politicians does exist5 the controversial Mu6iknightclub. 2ince 7889' it has been located in the horticulture building on cit*owned Exhibition!lace grounds. Two patrons were shot to death at the club in "ugust.Grimes voted to ban all*ages electronic dance music concerts on Exhibition propert. +aton did not.(Council overturned the ban., Grimes supported Mu6ik/s re:uest for a lease extension to 78;9' while+aton successfull pushed for a deferral on the matter to next ear after citing $ongoing dangerousactivit at the establishment.&Grimes sas the board of governors proposed an official plan amendment for Exhibition !lace'needed to extend Mu6ik/s lease beond the current 70*ear limit to 78;9. The CNE" opposed themove and $hired a lobbist to lobb cit council against a decision of Exhibition !lace'& Grimes sas.$That has to be a conflict.&

+ast month' +aton and Councillor Gord !erks presented council with a $Close Mu6ik& petition and won council/s backing to ask the "lcohol and Gaming Commission of 4ntario to review the club/slicence. Mu6ik' in a letter to council' said it has alread improved its securit plans and procedures

 but welcomes additional scrutin.

Grimes wrote the commission' saing there/s no need.

$The board (of governors of Exhibition !lace, has no issues with the li:uor licence of its tenant'Mu6ik Clubs nc.'& Grimes wrote to the commission.

!revious councillors have served on both the Exhibition !lace board and the CNE $at the same timefor decades' or as far back as can find'& +aton sas.

Exhibition !lace board members have also served on the board of the <oal "gricultural %inter =air "ssociation' another tenant of Exhibition !lace.

n 7807' Grimes recommended that former councillor Gloria +indsa +ub' then a member of theExhibition !lace board' be reappointed to the %inter =air "ssociation board for the 780; term.

$Michael +aton does bring up a good point about the <oal %inter =air. That probabl should bereviewed' too'& Grimes said.

-is re:uest to alter the composition of the Exhibition !lace board of governors and affiliates isscheduled to be considered b Maor >ohn Tor/s executive committee on Tuesda.
