Town Centre Vision What are we aiming for?

• Bournemouth 2035: A chic urban coastal destination where thriving leisure and retail offer a rewarding place to live and a complete visitor experience

• Through the Vision the beach, gardens, shopping and business district are better linked as one graceful space with clear landscaping and signage with greater priority to pedestrians and a thriving all year round event programme

• Buildings of high architectural merit are maintained and new development will offer a mix of sympathetic and landmark buildings which build and enhance Bournemouth heritage

Town Centre Vision

How are we going to do this?•  Deliver good quality homes and increase the number of people

living in the town centre to create a safe friendly and vibrant central hub

• Ensure better planning of development areas in the town centre so that mixed uses, infrastructure and design work together.

•  Work with the town’s existing retailers to ensure they can compete with the best

• Promote and deliver more attractions and events to boost retail and tourism and to benefit local people.

•  Create a vibrant education quarter with improved facilities for Bournemouth University, the Arts University and Bournemouth & Poole College.

• Deliver substantial and dramatic public realm  improvement and enhance the street scene  where people enjoy walking, lingering and al fresco eating.

• Working with the private sector to create a delivery mechanism to lead from the front. Look at new ways of financing our built environment.

Where Next?

• Phase 2 sites to be brought forward by Bournemouth Development company include Berry Court (100 residential units and 155 space public car park), St Stephens Road up to 30 new homes and Durley Road (care or residential).

 • Other sites that could come along as part of phase 3

include, the Winter Gardens, Bath Road North and Central car park. These sites have the potential to be real game changers and enjoy the uplift in value resulting from increased confidence and investor appeal following the completion early phases of this ambitious 20 year programme.

• In total the Council through a 20 year ground breaking partnership with the private sector aims to develop 17 town centre sites and to create a platform where people and business thrive and in the process create a town centre that can compete with the best.
