The Count of Monte Cristo
(Reaction paper)
The movie delves on a society of conspiracy and injustices. Consequently, it tells us the
price we have to pay for being innocent and uneducated. It made me realize of the verybig importance of education to us. Moreover, it relates to education as source of mans
liberation. Edmund Dantes, the main character of the movie, is faced with so much
conflict and suffered from grave woes because of his traitor friend and unconsciously
being the carrier of the dangerous letter of Napoleon Bonaparte. The main character in the
movie doesnt know how to read and write, thus, he wasnt able to know the content of
the letter which was then a plan of rebellion by Bonaparte. He then was faced in a
situation he never expected to come into his simple living. The situation faced by Edmundis evident enough to justify the impact of being educated yesterday and in this
contemporary time.
Edmund, being a God-fearing person lost his trust to God after what had happened to
him. He thought that God was never there in those times he needed his companion and
was never a God of justice. Hence, he never believed in God as if God never existed. As
his priest friend said, God believes in you. upon seeing the movie, I wonder why God
would believe in a person who doesntbelieve in himself and in His divine presence. Did
he mean that no matter how we feel weak and oppress and even lose the spirit of
confidence, God still believes that well make it through? But no matter what the reason
would be, Im happy of this thought. This made me see the world in rose-colored glasses.
This gave me a reason to somehow believe in Gods powerful presence in my every
endeavour and that God is a God of justice and would never manufacture a lock without a
key.
The story of the movie is simply amazing. This gave me a new perspective of vengeance,
which is never meant for self-fulfilment but for the good of everybody. We need not to
put the justice in our hands rather ask for it from God and patiently wait for it for
everything happens with a good purpose and in Gods best times.

Answer to Questions:
1. How would you assess or evaluate the content? The content is about a mans revenge & the development of character to fulfil its purpose in the world.
Shows how people react if someone does betrayal to others by making other pay the same fate other
suffered. The story also portrays the inequality in the society that the rich will be at the top & the
oppressed suffers.
2. How does Rizals early philosophy in life relate to Edmond Dantes the hero of the story? He wanted revenge for the Spaniards that let his family suffer & then in return of his good treatment to
them, the Spaniards does not give back courtesy to them. They exiled him & imprisoned his mother.
3. Has Edmund Dantes cunning plan of revenge similar in difference to what rizal believed in life with thecruel Spaniards?
Yes because rizal was oppressed and being discriminated in his entire life. He studied hard to be able
to be knowledgeable against Spaniards. He then wrote against them to get the freedom he wanted toget same as the movie.
Conclusion
Monte Cristo convinces the suicidal Maximilian Morrel to put off ending his life. At book's end he reveals that Maximilian'slover, Valentine de Villefort is actually alive. Morrel is overjoyed, and the Count sails off into the sunset.
Here, the Count is finally able to do something positive, to bring somebody "back to life," instead of driving them to suicide
or madness. Leaving behind Valentine and Maximilian, he sets out to start fresh.
