PLOT

1. Mister Alleyne asked for Mister Farrington´s presence is his office.

2. after his boss annoying warning, Mr. Farrington started to write but he could not, so he decided to go to his regularly bar.

3. when he came back to his office, the chief clerk tell him that Mr. Alleyne has already ask for him.

4. he realized that he could not finish the work and he give to his boss the correspondence but missing two of them.

5. he continued his work but his mind was in another places but in the work he has to do, so he do not notice Mr. Alleyne and Miss Delacour presence.

6. Mr. Alleyne start to argued to him because of the missing letters, but Mr. Farrington says something that he had not to say and this make his boss angry, Mr. Alleyne ask for an apologize or he would fire him.

7. after the abject apology, he decided to pawn his watch-chain in order to get money for a good night off.

8. when he arrived to the bar, he tell to his friend the story, all of them was thrilled for Farrington’s retort.

9. the group of friend who still have money, went off to the Scotch House, and there they meet another people to drink and they went then to Mulligan’s.

10. At Mulligan’s a young women caught Mr. Farrington’s attention, but she left the room and let him really disappointed.

11. Mr. Farrington was challenged by the young Paddy Leonard for a trial of strength to defend Scottish honor, but Mr. Farrington lost not once but twice.

12. After one of his worst days ever, Mr. Farrington decided to go home.

13. when the angry man arrived to his house, he vent his fury on one of his child.

14. The little boy asked for mercy to his father, promised him to pray for him.

CHARACTERS

MR. FARRINGTON

He is tall and of great bulk, he had a hanging face dark wine-coloured, with fair eyebrows and moustache: his eyes bulged forward slightly and the whites of them were dirty. He was alcoholism, lazy, irresponsible, arrogant. He worked at Crosbie and Alleyne, there he was in charge of copying the documents.

He was married and had five children. Also he had a group of friends who are his drunk mates.

MR. ALLEYNE

He is Mr. Farrington’s boss, he is one of the owner of Crosbie and Alleyne. He was a little man wearing gold-rimmed glasses on a clean shaven face, his head itself was so pink and hairless it seemed like a large egg.

He is straight, honest, he is from Ireland, most exactly from North Ireland.

Miss Parker: She works as a secretary in Crosbie and Alleyne.

Mister Shelley: He works in Crosbie and Alleyn as the chief clerk.

Miss Delacour: She is one of the firm client. She is middle-age, Jewish woman.

TOM FARRINGTON: He is one of the Mr. Farrington´s son, he is helpful and he tries to ingratiate himself with his father.

SETTINGS

WEATHER. The story is developed in Winter, more exactly

in a rainy February. TIME. The story is a entire day of someone, since his

labor hours until his return to his house in the night.

PLACE.The story is in a Scothlish city. There is a lot of changes of places first in the office, then in several bars and last in the house.

BIOGRAPHY

JAMES JOYCE

o James Joyce was born in Dublin, Ireland on february 2, 1882.

He was considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

From the age of six Joyce, was educated by Jesuits at Clongowes Wood College, at Clane, and then at Belvedere College in Dublin (1893-97)

In 1898 he entered the university college Dublin, where he found his early inspirations from the works of Henrik Ibsen, St Thomas Aquinas and W. B. Yeats.

At the outset of the First World War, Joyce moved with his family to Zürich, where Lenin and the poet essayist Tristan Tzara had found their refuge.

From 1917 to 1930 Joyce endured several eye operations, being totally blind for short intervals

 He was diagnosed of having a perforated duodenal ulcer. 

Joyce died after an operation, on January 13, 1941.

His last words were: "Does nobody understand?" Joyce was buried in Zürich at Fluntern cemetery.
