What is a Country Liaison?

EMEUNET’s main objectives are to enhance the quality of research and education

among emerging rheumatologists and researchers, by identifying their needs and

facilitating the communication among them. In order to facilitate this communication,

EMEUNET has a liaison in each country within EULAR, the so-called “EMEUNET Country

Liaison”.

Country liaisons are links of EMEUNET to each EULAR country and a vital pillar of the

network, as they contribute to the spread of EMEUNET. They provide a strong support

to the development of EMEUNET into a well-established network reaching the vast

majority of young rheumatologists and researchers across Europe.

There is one country liaison per each member country of EULAR. The liaison must be a

member of EMEUNET and may be part of the EMEUNET Working Group. This is a 1-

year position, which cannot be kept for more than 3 years.

What does a Country Liaison do?

EMEUNET country liaisons have the responsibility to disseminate information prepared

by EMEUNET (e.g. newsletters, website) within their country among young

rheumatologists (rheumatologists < 40 years old, trainees included) and researchers in

rheumatology; to promote and disseminate EMEUNET within their country – attract

young rheumatologists and researchers to become EMEUNET members; to maintain

updated mailing lists of trainees, young rheumatologists and researchers in

rheumatology within their country in order to efficiently deliver information received by

EMEUNET; and to give feedback and suggestions to the EMEUNET Working Group

members/Steering Committee. Moreover, being an EMEUNET country liaison can also

be a way to start actively to collaborate with EMEUNET and eventually make the next

step to become a Working Group member (EMEUNET members can apply for Working

Group membership on a yearly basis).

Why is it important for you to know who your Country Liaison is?

The Country Liaison is the person of contact of EMEUNET within your country. Country

liaisons act as a link between EMEUNET and young clinicians and researchers, usually

by communicating information from EMEUNET to the young researchers and clinicians,

but also the other way round (from young researchers/clinicians to EMEUNET), they

can report to the EMEUNET Working Group and EMEUNET Steering Committee the

specifics needs of EMEUNET members and emerging professionals in each EULAR

country, and if necessary, give input to the EULAR Standing Committees within EULAR.

If you are a young rheumatologist or researcher, make sure that you know who your

country liaison is and that he/she includes you in his/her mailing list.
