This doc u ment is Part 2 of 12 parts of the offi cial tri en nial com pi la tion and pub li ca tion of the adop tions, amend mentsand repeal of admin is tra tive reg u la tions to Cal i for nia Code of Reg u la tions, Title 24, also referred to as the Cal i for niaBuild ing Stan dards Code. This Part is known as the Cal i for nia Build ing Code.

The Cal i for nia Build ing Stan dards Code is pub lished in its entirety every three years by order of the Cal i for nia Leg is la -ture; with sup ple ments pub lished in inter ven ing years. The Cal i for nia Leg is la ture del e gated author ity to var i ous Stateagen cies, boards, com mis sions and depart ments to cre ate build ing reg u la tions to imple ment the State’s stat utes. Thesebuild ing reg u la tions or stan dards have the same force of law, and take effect 180 days after their pub li ca tion unless oth -er wise stip u lated. The Cal i for nia Build ing Stan dards Code applies to all occu pan cies in the State of Cal i for nia as anno -tated.

The County of Los Angeles has estab lished more restric tive build ing stan dards rea son ably nec es sary because of localcli ma tic, geo logical or topo graphical con di tions. PREFACE

To the County of Los Angeles Amendments

Title 26 of the Los Angeles County Code is substantially the California Building Code (CBC), with certain local deviations andadditions.

The California Building Code is published and promulgated by the California Building Standards Commission. New, updated edi-tions of this code are published every three years.

This 2014 edition of Title 26 adopts Chapters 2 through 35 of the 2013 edition of the California Building Code (including certainappendices) with local County amendments. The complete California Building Code is included in this book. Colored replacementpages containing local County amendments are supplied in a separate packet. The purpose is to allow the colored pages to remain asa unit or individually be substituted for the pages of the California Building Code, where applicable.

The following margin symbols are used to differentiate between California Building Code text and County of Los Angeles amend-ments:

This symbol indicates a revision to the California Building Code by the County of Los Angeles.

This symbol indicates deletion of IBC or CBC language by the County of Los Angeles.

Margin symbols that were used in the printing of the California Building Code still remain. Explanations of these symbols are locatedin the preface to that code.

The format of the County of Los Angeles Building Code is similar to that of the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 2, enti-tled “California Building Code” and is arranged as follows:

Chapter 1. Administrative Provisions. This chapter contains provisions similar to those found in the California Building Codeplus others that are unique to the County. Section 101 designates Title 26 as the “Building Code.”

Chapters 2–35. Occupancy and Construction Requirements. The California Building Code is used except where specificallyamended. Amendments are printed on colored paper and are signaled in the margin as noted above.

Chapters 65–99. Special County Requirements. These chapters have been implemented to meet the special needs of the County.The subjects covered are identified in the table of contents.
