LAND DONATED TO SAVE ENDANGERED OWLS! Some very generous people have offeredto donate 14 acres of prime habitat in Fort Edward to Friends of the IBA, a local nonprofit working toprotect endangered Short-eared Owls and other at risk grassland birds and their habitat. The parcelis located in the heart of the Washington County Grasslands Important Bird Area. Friends of the IBA(FIBA) is asking for your help to raise $20,000 to cover costs of transferring the land and futuremanagement costs. We need to raise one third of that amount by September 1st to be able to closeon the property, said FIBA President & Director Laurie LaFond. Every contribution helps. This isan important first acquisition in our Land for Owls campaign. Friends of the IBA is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit and the first official New York State DEC steward of the Washington County Grasslandsstate areas. Friends of the IBA was awarded a $5,000 grant from the NYS Conservation PartnershipProgram by DEC and Land Trust Alliance in May. LaFond said the grant, funded through theEnvironmental Protection Fund (EPF), will help advance the groups mission to provide safe habitatfor these beautiful birds and educate the public about them. Mail checks to Friends of the IBA, P.O.Box 82, Fort Edward, NY 12828, or call (518) 499-0012 and leave a message. Visit www.ibafriends.orgfor more info!
