The three comedianshave totally different per-sonas.

Chris Monty, straight-laced in a jacket and tie, does observational humor, much of it New York-based. No surprise there,as he grew up on Long Is-land and lives in Queens.

Butch Bradley is yourtypical laid-back JerseyShore guy. He interactswith the audience likethey’re all old friends whohung out on the boardwalkas teens.

Uncle Floyd, a radioand TV personality fromPaterson, fires off zingerslike Rodney Dangerfield.

What they all have incommon, besides beingfunny, is that they justcompleted an almostweeklong gig at Borgata’sComedy Club.

On Tuesday night lastweek, the trio drew morethan 200 to theMusic Box.

They are the workingclass of comedy, plyingcomedy clubs and servingasopeningacts, landinganoccasional spot on televi-sion.

Monty opened with ajoke about the old adage:You can’t take it with you.“What if you got to heavenand findoutyoucould takeit with you and you don’thave the money to enterheaven?”

Laughter.The comedy club runs

about 280 nights a year, said Randy Butler, who

books the acts for his com-pany, the Medford-basedMother Leeds Entertain-ment. “We work an aver-ageof fivenightsperweekyear-round.”

Next week, the threecomicswork seven nights.

Bradley was decidedlyun-PC when he jokedabout the hurricane:“Sandy hit Camden andmade $198 million in im-provements.”

More laughter. In his act, Uncle Floyd

asked his son what he wasgoing tobewhenhegetoutof college. “He said ‘39 or40.’”

“Iwent to seeapsychic.I knocked on the door. Shesaid, ‘who is it.’ So I left.”

More laughter.Working a casino

atmosphere, even one de-signed like a comedy club, calls for a different ap-proach, said Monty, whogrew up watching “TheUncle Floyd Show” — aniconic show that ran from1974 to1998 onvarious sta-tions in North Jersey andNew York.

“A nightclub is moreedgy. We get an oldercrowd at the casino thatdoesn’t get as edgy,” hesaid.

If you think of DJ Jazzy Jeff only from his days of partnering with WillSmith, you’re in for a surprise if you catch his act at Dusk Saturday .

“You never can tell what I’ll play,” he said from Delaware, where he makeshis home. “I always throw a curve ball. My job is to make people have a greattime through music, whether it’s classic rock, old school, pop, hip-hop or folksong.”

Youmight evenhearagameshowtheme.Orhis ownremixof theTemp-tation’s “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” with its smooth jazz feel.

Born Jeffrey Townes in Philadelphia, DJ Jazzy Jeff says all musicspeaks a universal language. “It’s a great tool to have a good time allover the globe.”

Still, he never envisioned that being a DJ and fronting a turn-table would become such a phenomenon, with David Guetta andTiesto asprimeexamples. “I never thought that 20years ago,” hesaid. “I’m really surprised at the global impact.”

As a youngster, Townes was fascinated by DJs hired to playat block parties in his Philadelphia neighborhood.

“I thought it was amazing watching a guy play records andcontrol hundreds of people withthe tunes he played. I was moreintriguedwiththatthenthepar-ty. I was 9 years old and wantedto be that guy.”

When he got older, Townesbought records from his olderbrother and brought this col-lectionof45s toapartydowntheblock. “I was the guy who playedtunes. It grew to a three block radius, then a ten block radius.”

Then all over West Philadelphia. He enjoyed the attention and the girls and the prestige. Townes took

his moniker at age 12.“My first choice was Mix Master Jeff. But it cost too much to get all

those lettersonashirt. So IcameupwithJazzyJeff. In themiddleofallthis, thehip-hopexplosionhappenedand itwasall themorerelevant tome.”

As DJ Jazzy Jeff, he evolved into one of the most sought-after turn-table artists in the region. It was at one of his gigs that he met fellowPhiladelphian Will Smith.

“There was a natural chemistry. He and I did parties together. Wedid a routine at parties which got so much attention, we recorded it.”

The recording “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble” got into the handsof a local record promoter. At the time, Smith was planning to attend MITand Townes worked a 9 to 5 job at an ice cream parlor in University City.

“There was not a lot of DJs or hip-hop groups who looked at this as acareer. I worked in an ice cream parlor to pay money to buy turntables. I’dbe a DJ for free. I found something I really love to do and I do it,” saidTownes, who has multiple Grammy and American Music awards and nomi-nations.

Thesedays,DJJazzyJeff is on the roadmore thanever. And throughhiscompany A Touch of Jazz, he’s worked with artists such as Jill Scott andMusiq. He just finished an album with Ayah, a Toronto performer, set forrelease next summer.

“I’m also working on a record with my son, Amiracle. I have always beenhonest and told him the good parts and the bad parts of the business.”

No one forced Amiracle into the family business. “His love of musiccomes naturally. I am more happy about that than anything else.”
