Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Medicine Course
The LASD Tactical Medicine Course is a 40-hour competency-based training program. The course is approved and certified by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). It meets the California POST and EMSA medical guidelines required for Medics attached to a SWAT Team. This course provides an intensive overview of tactical medicine through a combination of lectures, skill labs, and reality-based scenarios.
Course topics include, but are not limited to the following:
- Tactical Casualty Care - Wound Ballistics - Hemorrhage Control - Blast Injuries - Airway Management - Low Light Assessment - Environmental Emergencies - California TEMS Guidelines - Pediatric Tactical Trauma - Pain Management - Tactical Medical Equipment - Medical Aspects of Less Lethal Weapons - Medical Aspects of Chemical Agents - Medical Aspects of Distraction Devices
Prerequisites: Certified EMT and CA POST 80-Hour Basic SWAT Course
