Introduction

Divyajyoti Trust is a voluntary development organisation involved in eye care

activities in rural tribal areas of Surat district of south Gujarat. Divyajyoti

Trust endeavors to reach out & assist the poorest of poor for eye care through

base hospital & outreach programmes based upon the community needs &

available manpower. Student-centered course design

Eye Programme

More and more people are taking advantage of the services provided by hospital

covering population of 2.5 million and diagnostic camps in interior rural areas.

The programme, which treats 3000 patients in OPD and operates more than 400

patients, every month, has facilities like operating microscopes, Diode & Yag

lasers, auto refractor, OCT, clinical specular microscope, A-B scan. Photo slit

lamp, Phaco-emulsification & automated perimeter. Surgeries like cataract with

intraocular lense implantation & Keratoplasty are regularly performed. About

75% patients get free treatment for which financial assistance from organization

and local community is available

Objectives of the training

The major objective of the training is to develop a cadre of trained professionals

and thereby increase people’s participation in the eye care programme. This will

naturally lead to spread of the awareness of eye health & cataract surgeries.

Ultimately, curable blindness will be controlled to a large extent

Outcomes of the training

After training candidates will be able to assist an ophthalmologist for various

kind of eye surgeries. He/she will be able to take care of pre & post-operative

patients as well as counsel them in effective manner. In nutshell, overall

ophthalmic nursing care will be taken by the candidate

Theory & Practical Training:

There will be one or two periods of theory daily. Thereafter, demonstration and

observation will be arranged. On completion of aforesaid both stages, trainees

will have to do practical.

Language: Mainly - Gujarati (Hindi and English depending upon the

trainees)

Posting: Postings will be done as per syllabus.

Fees: Ophthalmic nursing training for 1 year – Rs. 2400/-

Accommodation & Food, breakfast, Tea charges will be Rs. 6000/-

per year.

Qualification: Minimum qualification required is 12th pass from all

background (Science preferable).

Accommodation: Three – five trainees will be accommodated in

one room ordinarily. In case of large size room the number of trainees

may be more than three.

Food:Rice, Dal, Chapati and Vegetables.

Morning Tea with breakfast, Afternoon – Only Tea, Extra Tea will be at

extra cost.

Library:

Textbooks are available as reference books in the library. Course material &

Video cassettes are available.

Whatever extra facility is availed by the trainee, extra charges will be

levied.

S.T. Buses are available at an interval of every hour from Surat & Kim for coming to Mandvi.

Leave: One weekly off will be given at our convenience. On sundays, it is compulsory to attend eye camps. During training period, trainees will not be allowed to visit their homes.
