Level 1HospitalityTwo GCSEs at grade D or above (may include 1 relevant equivalent) preferably to include English Language or First Language Welsh.

Level 2HospitalityThree GCSEs at grade D or above (may include 1 relevant equivalent), preferably to include English Language or First Language Welsh. In addition to one reference as evidence of work experience in the kitchen, food and beverage industry.

Level 3Professional CookeryNo direct entry. Successful completion of VRQ in Professional Cookery.

Food and Beverage Service SupervisionNo direct entry. Successful completion of a Level 2 VRQ in Food & Beverage Service or industry experience at supervisory level.

BackgroundAs one of the most popular industries across the globe, employing millions of people worldwide, hospitality is an exciting, and rapidly growing sector. The courses we have on offer can lead to excellent career opportunities both locally and globally.

FacilitiesLearners will train in our commercial restaurant and kitchens where they will be serving College staff and students as well as members of the public from day one. This is a realistic training environment where they will get to work alongside top chefs both locally and from further afield to perfect their culinary skills and front of house management.

Trips/VisitsThroughout the course visits are arranged to local employers to find out about food and drink production and an international trip is being planned for 2021 subject to Covid-19 restrictions. Learners are also encouraged to undertake industrial placements through the SEED Bursary scheme. Previous placements have included:

CompetitionsLearners are encouraged to take part in competitions throughout the course. Former Level 3 learner Sam Everton recently made it through to the WorldSkills Finals in Kazan, Russia in August 2019 where he secured a Medallion of Excellence. Competing in competitions helps to build learners’ confidence and really boosts their job applications.

be doing now to get you ready for

studying at College.

You should aim to purchase any kit or uniform before the start of term. You will be sent a pack containing details of anything you need to buy.

If you want to become a chef, now is a great time to be practising your culinary skills at home.

Make sure you have a ‘can do’ attitude. You need to be prepared to work hard and to arrive ready for your sessions.

Watch YouTube clips or documentaries that are relevant to the hospitality industry.

Levels ExplainedEntry Level and Level 1Our Level 1 and Entry Level courses are suitable for you have few of no formal qualifications. If you don’t get the GCSE grades you had hoped for, then you can start at Entry Level and work your way up.

Level 2Most of our Level 2 courses require you to have GCSE grades at D and some even require you to have achieved C grades in certain subjects. Entry requirements for each course vary so please check the website before applying.

Level 3If you have five GCSEs at grade C or above (some courses may require you to have achieved B grades in certain subjects) you can go straight in at Level 3 (equivalent to studying A-levels).

How to Apply1. Visit our website, select your course and apply online

You’ll need to create and account and this will be used to update you on the progress of your application. If you need any help with your application, please contact our Admissions team: [email protected]

2. InterviewOnce we have received your application we would normally invite you into the College for an interview. Given the current circumstances, you may be invited to a virtual interview instead.

3. OfferIf we are happy with your application and interview we will make you a conditional offer. Your place will be subject to you obtaining the necessary GCSE grades.

4. UpdatesWe’ll send you periodic emails between now and September to let you know we haven’t forgotten about you!

5. EnrolmentYou’ll be invited to an enrolment day in August where we will check your grades and enrol you on your course. If you don’t get your grades, don’t panic, our Advice and Guidance team will work with you to find a suitable alternative.
