COURSE DESCRIPTION This is combined course for CCNA Introduction to Network and Routing & Switching Essential courses. This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and other computer networks and also provides a comprehensive, theoretical, and practical approach to learning the technologies and protocols needed to design and implement a converged switched network. It uses the OSI and TCP layered models to examine the nature and roles of protocols and services at the application, network, data link, and physical layers. It will explain Principles and structure of IP addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations are introduced to provide a foundation.

TARGETED PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: CCENT

COURSE OBJECTIVES After finishing this course, student will be able to perform; Build simple LAN topologies by applying basic principles of cabling Basic configurations of network devices such as routers and switches Implementing IP addressing schemes (Subnetting and supernetting, VLSM) Students learn about the hierarchical network design model and how to select devices for each layer. Configure a switch for basic functionality and how to implement virtual LANs, VTP, and inter-VLAN routing in a converged network. The different implementations of Spanning Tree Protocol in a converged network are presented Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network.

CLASS POLICIES Please plan to arrive on time. Please put phones on silent mode. No phone calls during class. If you need to make or receive a call, please step out from the class. No permission from the instructor is required. Students are required to keep up with the weekly reading and exercise assignments. Each student needs to assume full responsibility of his/her own performance in this course. The course includes the regular quizzes to monitor the progress of students. As a general rule, no makeups for the assignments unless you can supply a doctors note or police report. Final tests may be attempted twice if the first attempt falls below the passing grade. Attendance of all classes is mandatory. Failure to attend three consequent classes may result in course termination for the student. Failure to attend 15 hours of classes may result in course termination for the student. Course fees will not be refunded. The grading policy is designed to be fair and transparent. While students are encouraged to bring to the instructors attention any possible grading input errors, haggling for grades is highly inappropriate may result in grade reductions instead of an enhanced grade. Grades can only be earned; not negotiated. Recording of classes is permitted only if recording is part of an approved accommodation plan or with prior written consent of the instructor. Students will be using Network Academy Equipment during the lab time. Students allowed to perform only the tasks that have been explicitly assigned by the instructor. Please be careful with the equipment. If you have doubts about some operations with the equipment you must ask the instructor before proceeding with any action. Any form of academic dishonesty (ex. cheating, plagiarism, collusion, and misrepresentation) are serious offences. Penalties for academic dishonesty range from a grade of zero on the work in question to expulsion from the Networking Academy. Decisions on the cases of academic dishonesty will be made by the Instructor and can be appealed to Academy Coordinator.

Assessment:Course assessment will be done in the form of final course tests. Students scored 75% or above in total grade (Final exam must be higher than 75%) will be entitled to receive Certificate of Course Completion from the Networking Academy. You are entitle to receive Cisco exam voucher if your final exam score is higher than 75%.
