Innovation and Radical Collaboration

• “For Ryerson, innovation means encouraging its academic community to challenge the status quo with new solutions and to apply new ways of thinking that transform the world.”

(Ryerson University’s Academic Plan, 2014-2019)

• “The challenge to rethink and retool traditional methods of collaboration is resonating in academic libraries. This bold charge has come to be known as radical collaboration, and it challenges libraries to go beyond standard library collaborative initiatives; to experiment and be daring.”

( ACRL Research Planning and Review Committee, April 2013)

Nimble, Responsive and Utilize our Strengths

• “Experimentation and collaboration among diverse teams will be encouraged to ensure that structures, processes and services remain nimble and responsive as the needs of the university change.”

(Ryerson University’s Academic Plan, 2014-2019)

• “Find a niche, to infiltrate a soft spot in the battlement – one that provides the best area to devote resources and is the most likely theatre for success … identify the right leaders to follow or defend”.

(Kempcke, Ken “The Art of War for Librarians: Academic Culture, Curriculum Reform, and Wisdom from Sun Tzu.” Portal: Libraries and the Academy 2.4(2002): 529-51.)

One Stop Project (2012 -) Utilizes our Strengths to Respond to ChangesLibrary E-Reserves before 2012:•Create permanent links to electronic resources as course readings

•Scan documents and make them accessible

•Arrange copyright permissions and payment

•Link with Learning Management System - Blackboard

One Stop New Features:

• Collaborate with the Campus Store:

Course pack requests are routed to the Library for copyright pre-checking so that already existing library licences can be used to deliver content, without cost duplication to students.

• Customize a commercial e-reserve database (Ares) to centralize storage of copyright permissions data from e-reserve, Bookstore, Continuing Education, Audio Visual Services and the Copyright Office.
