Jackrabbits are not rabbits… They’re Hares!
Rabbits are…- Born with very little fur- Smaller- Have smaller ears- Have shorter hind legs
Jackrabbits are…- Born with lots of fur- Bigger- Have bigger ears- Have longer hind legs
How to tell it’s a jackrabbitJackrabbits are mammals. Jackrabbits eat plants, so they are called herbivores.
Very big ears, usually tipped in black
Short tail
Big hindlegs and hindfeet
Big eyes
Whiskers
Fur is white, brown, and/or black
Jackrabbits are hungry critters!Jackrabbits eat cacti, sagebrush, and grasses. Jackrabbits can eat over a pound of grasses,
plants, or bark each day.
Jackrabbits on the run!When jackrabbits see they are in danger, they run zigzag and jump very high to get away from their enemies. Jackrabbits can run up to 40 miles per hour, and jump up to 10 feet!
