The purpose of the COVID-19 Watch is to summarize the coronavirus surveillance in the City of Cleveland, Ohio. This summary report reflects the period starng from February 15, 2020 unl April 3, 2021.
What Maers Most
1. There has been an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizaons in Cleveland for two weeks in a row (Fig. 1). These trends emphasize the need to connue social distancing and mask-wearing in public spaces.
2. The likelihood of severe outcomes for COVID-19 paents, such as hospitalizaon and death, has increased as well. The number of hospitalizaons has increased slightly for the second week in a row. The apparent case-fatality rate for the month of February (1.88%) is already higher than that of January (1.21%), despite the fact that only 82% of reported deaths occurring in February have been confirmed, compared with the 96% of reported deaths occurring in January.
3. Since the onset of the pandemic, individuals under 40 years of age have account for 51% of all cases in Cleveland. However, this week these younger Cleveland residents account for 57% of new cases (Fig. 2).
4. Sixteen posive cases 'U.K. Variant' B.1.1.7 have been idenfied among Cleveland residents. This variant strain has increased transmissibility and may contribute to the increase in cases seen recent weeks.
4. Demographic idenfiers such as age, gender, race, and ethnicity in cumulave charts are unvarying as total cases in City of Cleveland near 30,000. Observing the changes in these demographic idenfiers week to week over the last four reporng periods has shown more significant variaons.
5. As of April 3, 2021, CDPH has administered 47,294 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the community, including first and second doses of Moderna and Pfizer.
