PREFACE

HIS ALTAR MISSAL contains the Order for the Celebration of theHoly Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer, together

with traditional devotions and ceremonial directions consonant with

the usage of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada.The Collects, Epistles, and Gospels are those of the Book of CommonPrayer, with additional Collects and Propers from the Prayers Books inuse throughout the Traditional Anglican Communion, along with thatof the Sarum Missal and The English Missal. The Secrets, Post-Communion Collects and traditional devotions, together with many of the ceremonial directions, are from The Anglican Missal and The EnglishMissal. The Minor Propers are from The English Gradual published bythe Plainchant Publications Committee; and the Introit and Gradualspublished by the Anglican Catholic Convent Society.

The aim throughout this Missal has been the production of a usefulaltar book, consonant alike with the Book of Common Prayer and withthe Catholic tradition of the Anglican Church. The Order for HolyCommunion is that established and approved by the late BishopCarmino de Catanzaro, first Metropolitan and Bishop Ordinary of theAnglican Catholic Church of Canada, and approved for use by hissuccessors. Such devotional enrichments as Introits and Graduals,together with Offertory and Communion Sentences, and Post-Communion Collects are widely used and sanctioned within theTraditional Anglican Communion, and part of the rich liturgicalheritage that is the Ecclesia Anglicana.

This revised edition of the Anglican Catholic Missal has been preparedand compiled by The Right Reverend Peter D. Wilkinson, OSG,Metropolitan and Bishop Ordinary of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada. Thanks must be given to many who have assisted in thecompilation and production of this Missal, particularly Mrs. NoellaBirch who spent countless hours typing, proof reading and correctingthis revised edition, a debt of gratitude is certainly owed her for all herdedicated and hard work.; as well, mention should be made of thecontributions of Bishop Carl Reid, Dean Shane Janzen, Miss PeggyCartnal, Mr. Tim Smith, Mrs. Johanna Socha, and the clergy across theDiocese who kindly agreed to use the first edition of the Missal,offering their corrections and suggestions.

This Anglican Catholic Altar Missal is dedicated to the glory andhonour of Almighty God the Holy Trinity, to our Blessed Mother, andto the clergy and people of Christ’s one, holy, catholic and apostolicChurch.
