SUBMISSION OF MEMORUNDUM OF DEMANDS FOR JUSTICE BY RETIRED OFFICERS, SOLDIERS AND

WAR WIDOWS ( VETRANS)

Dear Sir

On behalf of Veterans for democracy; a political front of retired officers, soldiers and war widows, I

am taking this opportunities to draw your kind attention to the plight of veterans and war widows

along with submission of our demands to bring justice to them.

‘Veterans for Democracy; is an initiative by veterans to provide a political interphase in form of a

platform to almost 3 crores veterans, their dependents, friends and supporters. The initiative is not

affiliated or supported by any political party or ideology except their faith in constitution, democracy

and freedom with an overall objective of strengthening the democracy.

Since independence veterans whether in service or retired have stood by the Indian constitution and

value of democracy. Like freedom fighters they have served the nation with their blood and have

always worked for nation building. They have invaluable political stake in the democracy. It is

therefore their right to work for strengthening the values as envisaged in Indian constitution and

demand justice and fair Governance.

Veterans for long have been exploited, discriminated and ignored unfortunately by the state which

they served. I draw your attention to the today’s article in Hindustan Time where in the pathetic

condition of family of Parmaveer Chakra winner Late Shri Labert Ekka has been highlighted. I also

draw your attention to the recent movie on Subedar Pan Singh Tomar who was a national

sportsperson but due to sheer neglect and injustice by the state became dacoit. These are not

isolated cases, veterans are todays a marginalised and neglected class. The situation is dangerous if

seen in the background of rising frustration of people and insurgency in the country. It is known fact

(in political science) that when revolutions take place due to state repression and poor governance

soldiers are first to join. And it’s a fact that veterans and even serving soldiers from insurgency

infested areas are under pressure.

Notwithstanding such pressures and injustice veterans while in service or retired have stood by their

oath and their belief in democracy and constitution and deserve compliment and appreciation. The

present course of directly approaching the political leadership of the country for the justice with a

confidence of getting it, has been taken reasserting their same belief in our democracy. India is a

vibrant democracy and developing nation and has tremendous strength and resilience to overcome

problems faced by her. Veterans stand by their commitment for nation building and are requesting a

just opportunity to be part it.

The memorandum of demands as enclosed, concerns to grant of justice to prevent veteran’s

exploitation, discrimination and also for strengthening the constitutional framework, good

governance, efficient administration and fair justice system.

Veterans humbly request you to consider these demands objectively and grant justice.

Thanking you
