Anzac Day in our Shire – 25 April 2020
Tomorrow is ANZAC Day and it will be a very different sort of day for Australians all over the country due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t still pause for a moment as a community to remember those who have fought and died for our country. The Shire encourages all community members to look at some of the following ways for how you can still mark the passing of ANZAC Day 2020: • RSLWA’s Driveway Dawn Service (www.rslwa.org.au/
commemoration/anzac-day). At 6am on ANZAC Day, the RSL is calling on community members to stand in their driveways, on their balconies, etc., tune into ABC radio and stand united but apart to remember the fallen, those who served and those who continue to serve.
If you live on a rural property, the Shire suggests that you may wish to go to your nearest crossroads. Be sure to maintain appropriate social distancing if more than a single household goes to the same location.
• Music for Mateship is another similar campaign of the same nature to the Driveway Dawn Service but Australia’s brass players are being called on to play the Last Post and the Rouse/Reveille (with a minute’s silence in between) during the dawn service. Further information on this can be found on their Facebook page or website (https://musicformateship.org/) if you have a brass instrument and would like to participate.

Practical Driving Assessments CancelledThe Department of Transport (Transport WA) cancelled the ability to book a PDA (excluding priority candidates) several weeks ago due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. For a time the Shire of Gingin was able to continue to offer PDAs to applicants living within the Shire of Gingin.
However, 22 April was the last day that PDAs were carried out at the Shire. All further PDA bookings with the Shire of Gingin have been cancelled until further notice.
You can visit the Department of Transport’s FAQ page on their website (www.transport.wa.gov.au) to find out more such as:
• Who is considered a priority candidate?• What evidence do I need to provide to qualify as a
priority candidate?• I need my licence to travel to and from my place of work,
will I be prioritised?• I’m not a priority candidate, can I still book a PDA for a
future date?

New Travel App for WA Check Points
On 20 April Premier Mark McGowan announced that West Leederville firm GenViz, in partnership with WA Police and Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, have launched a new app to assist in processing those people with an exemption through our borders and checkpoints across WA.
The G2G App has been designed as an efficient tool for freight, transport and other key industries to travel through the borders, reducing time and interaction at checkpoints.
Businesses or individuals can now apply for approval to travel, if you fall under an exempt category.
You can still use the existing paper-based process or help police at checkpoints by providing documentation to support your approved travel.
If approved a ‘QR’ code will be issued to your phone via the G2G app or it can be printed out for presentation at a checkpoint.
This will be a really useful and practical tool as it will help to streamline the process, particularly for business and industry, fast-tracking movement through the checkpoints.
For further information and to apply, visit www.g2gpass.com.au.
