Please take care in dropping children to the school and walking into the school area. On Tuesday the school had the tremendous honour of being selected by Woolworths Supermarket to receive a lunch provided by Cowra Woolworths. Daniel Aldred, the manager of the store contacted the school with the idea of providing the lunch to students and staff and also provided several staff members on the day to help make the 400 salad roles. In what can only be described as a great show of generosity the school would like to extend its appreciation to the Cowra Woolworths and their staff and management. The children loved the food and enjoyed a picnic lunch on the grass in the sunshine. At school, we are preparing for the Naplan week which will see years 3 and 5 complete the assessment tasks. We are confident that the children will perform well. This week, the major event will be the final assembly for Mr Egan starting at 2.10pm on Friday. Mr Egan has been a member of staff for over 17 years and will be leading his final Circus performance. The students of Cowra Public School, have all benefitted from Mr Egan’s enthusiasm and wide range of skills across a number of areas. Mrs Egan who also has worked at the school for over 16 years will be attending and we welcome all parents, students, past students and staff members to attend this wonderful tribute to a great couple who have constantly put great emphasis on promoting opportunities towards all students. STAGE 3 PIE DRIVE Stage 3 students are holding a Pie Drive to assist with costs for their excursion to Narrabeen this year. Pie drive orders are attached to this newsletter and as winter is fast approaching this is an excellent opportunity to stock your freezer with mouth watering pies from Roberts Bakery in Orange. Orders for the pies need to be in by Wednesday, 22 May 2013 and the pies will be delivered to school on Thursday, 30 May 2013. There will be a prize for the most pies sold by a student. We will also be leading into the eisteddfod weeks and all involved are looking forward to this wonderful event. Last term the Adventure Club was held with 15 students selected from grades 3- 6. The students enjoyed a day of mountain climbing and caving and this term the second adventure club day looks to be just as exciting. Stage 1 will also have an adventure day catering for their age and ability this term. The requirements for selection for this activity are very simple. Children need to be following PBL and they need to have strong attendance at school. Each class will select two students to attend the days and at the end of the year over 70 students will have experienced the adventure club. Another initiative to promote strong attendance is the award presentation for high attendance being held at the school assemblies. In the Stage 1 awards both Jacqui Long and Talara Munro have been awarded a shopping trip with Mr Tom. Mr Tom having two boys is a bit frightened about the idea of going into the pink isle. The senior winners were Rebecca McIntosh, Nikita Frappell and Brayden Harris and they will also be going shopping with Mr Tom. To finish off this week I would like to thank all parents and community members for their support of the mother’s day raffle. The raffle will be drawn tomorrow with the winners phoned and prizes delivered by the close of the day. I sincerely wish all mothers a wonderful day on Sunday and I hope your children appreciate your efforts. We certainly do!
