As we near the end of the build season and the robot’s completion, 610’s strategy division is hard at work. This weekend, they will be running our drive-team through countless drills with the robot. These drills are designed to improve the drive-team's skills in every aspect of this year’s game. It is the strategy teams job to ensure that the drive-team is performing their very best when competition comes around. However, the work doesn’t stop there for the strategy division. After the build season finishes they will dive into the actual strategies that the team will need at competitions and will begin analyzing the competition for both events we will be attending (New Hampshire and Waterloo) to figure out what we can expect from other teams.

Jake Fisher is the head of the strategy division and our human player for this season. During the build season, Jake was a key contributor to designing the shooter. At the moment he is deeply involved in the team’s practice sessions, both practicing his

human player skills as well as designing and running robot drills with the drive-team. Although it will be at competitions where Jake is truly tested, he will have double the responsibility as most team members,

helping plan 610’s strategy for every match, and then assisting in the

execution of those strategies via the human player position. Jake is sure to be pushed to his limits this year, but the team is confident he’s up to the task.

Ryan Fredrickson is this years assistant head of strategy. He is

one of the most passionate and energetic members of team 610,

and that becomes clear at competitions. Ryan has been a devoted member of the team this year, helping to machine some of the drivetrain. Ryan has also assisted in designing the drills for the drive-team and preparing strategies for competitions. This season, Ryan and Jake have done a great job working together and sharing the heavy workload that is placed on the strategy division every year.

As the time we are allotted to build the robot dwindles down to none, 610 has set their sights set on the latter half of the FIRST season - competition. Our team, with the assistance of other teams from our area, have been practicing on the field we have constructed in our field house. Practicing shooting cycles and hanging will give our drivers a feel for the robot that will improve their skills tremendously by the time our first regional comes around. The top teams in FIRST aim to finish their robot early. Teams can benefit from this by troubleshooting problems they inevitably encounter and drivers becoming familiar with the robot.

practice makes perfect

This year, we are grateful to be accompanied by FRC teams 907, 1241 and 3396. Having these teams here with us allows for the reciprocal sharing of ideas, and is just one way we reach out to other teams in the FIRST community. Not only does it raise the level of play at regional competitions, having an entire weekend to focus on robotics reduces the stress that follows this stage of the build season. Thus, as our team strives for perfection with the hopes of catching excellence along the way, students and mentors clock numerous hours finishing the robot. We hope to make this season our best ever!
