A Message From The Principal Welcome back to another great school year at C.R. Judd public school. This year, C.R. Judd public school is welcoming approximately 160 smiling and enthusiastic learners. A special welcome to our new families moving into the area and especially to our newest learners in the first year of the 2 year Kindergarten Program. I also would like to wish a warm welcome back to our returning students. These students and families, along with our staff and community partners, help create a school where everyone is proud to be a “Jaguar”. Every year, the school council works in partnership with the school to make C.R. Judd P.S. a great place for the students. If you are interested in joining the school council, parents are invited to forward the School Council Nomination forms to the office by September 21st. The forms are distributed with the Rainbow Schools’ Guide for Students and Parents . Please read the guide carefully as it contains valuable information from the Kindergarten program, to the RDSB code of conduct and ways to help your child succeed. The last page contains the school year calendar as well. Please join us at our open house on Wednesday September 14th, 2016 for free pizza and refreshments from 5:30-‐6:30 at CR Judd. This will be an opportunity to meet the staff, visit the school and the classroom with your child. Everyone is welcome and I hope to see you and your family!
Another important resource is the school agenda. Each child from grade 1 to 8 will have an agenda which will be used for school-‐home communication and to organize their learning. The school policies are also included in the agenda. We are asking for a $5.00 donation to help defray the cost of the agendas. We will continue in 2016-‐2017 to set goals for our students. Enhancing our student’s reading skills has been the goal in the past and we will continue to work with our students, the staff and the community on reading as this opens the door to a lifetime of learning both inside and outside of the classroom. You have probably noticed that teaching and learning mathematics has changed over the years. Our school will also focus on improving math learning this year to engage your child in making math fun & interesting. I look forward to a great year with our students, families and community partners. Together we will continue to demonstrate excellence in Teaching and Learning. In an effort to reduce costs and be environmentally friendly, our monthly newsletter will only be available online at www.rainbowschoolos.ca, “Schools”, “C.R. Judd”, “Visit Our Website”, “News”, or http://www.rainbowschools.ca/elementary/cr_judd/news/news.php, unless you request a paper copy from the office. The remainder of this newsletter can also be found on the website. Looking forward to great year together with a focus on learning. Mr. Jacques Mantha Principal

S.E.T.Program Student Employment Training

3. To involve students in the operation of the school 4. To promote good citizenship in students
(extension of our Good Character program) 5. To ensure all students equal opportunity to do
voluntary work around the school and experience the satisfaction of helping others.
The S.E.T. Board is located in the hallway near the office. With permission, keep checking the Board for current Job Postings. C.R. JUDD PUBLIC SCHOOL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY – September 2016 If your child is assigned to a bus then he/she should be on that bus to go home unless you have given written permission (or have called the school) to: • go home by another means • stay for a practice / game / tutoring Please take note that WRITTEN PERMISSION is preferred. Students are NOT allowed to call home to make arrangements to walk. The teachers on bus duty will be taking “bus attendance” every evening. If there are 40 students to board the bus, the teacher must account for every student. When a student has a note regarding alternate P.M. bussing arrangements, the note will be forwarded from the office to the teacher on bus patrol. These notes will be used to account for children not on a bus. Parents who come to the school to pick up a child that would normally be bussed, must enter through the front doors and sign the child out in the yellow sheet in the main office. The child will then be paged to the office for pick up. Situation: John has a basketball practice tonight. Focused on the practice and his friends, John forgets that his mom told him to go home because he has an appointment. John’s mom is frantic when the school bus goes by and John doesn’t get off the bus. Immediately, John’s mom calls the school. The teacher on bus patrol has no idea where John is -‐-‐ he didn’t get on the bus and he didn’t give her a note, in fact she hasn’t seen him. She checked the office and he wasn’t signed out. She asked the secretary if John was absent today. She can’t help John’s mom. She also has no idea that John is in the gym playing basketball.
(Thankfully, this is a hypothetical case. John is safe, however, John could have decided to walk home without letting anyone know. We cannot stress enough how important it is that we know that your children are getting home properly and safely.) Together we can prevent this from occurring. Remember, we are concerned for the welfare and safety of your child. Your co-‐operation in making this process work is appreciated. Yours truly, Mr. J. Mantha Principal
Bus Loading Zone: Beware of Students
If you are driving and parking your car to pick up or drop off students, please be mindful of the bus loading zone at the start and end of each day. Kindly refrain from blocking any driveways as well. Please feel free to park further down along Lincoln Crescent, in the school's lower parking lot or across the street from the school and walking your child across the street. The school bus loading zone is a busy area and we all need to work together to ensure the safety of all of our students. Thank you for making the bus loading area a super safe place for all of the students.
Recycle for Education is an ink and toner recycling program designed to educate adults and kids on the benefits and importance of recycling. Please encourage students, friends and family members to drop off their empty ink cartridges off at the school or directly to Staples .

Have you noticed our new trees at the school? Six maple trees were planted in June and a new rain barrel was set up to catch rain water to water them with! Thank you to our friends at CR Judd Daycare (run by O.C.O.F.), Miss Monique our custodian and the LeGrand family for watering them all summer! Please help take care of them and be a C.R. Judd ambassador to care for our environment!
