RAF COLLEGE CRANWELL“Cranwell Village Remembers Them”
Headstones of Cranwellians Buried at St Peter’s Church Cranwell Village
The Village Church
On a miserable November morning, a Cranwellian and his two Standard Poodle dogs set out from the Brunei Centre opposite the RAF Cranwell guardroom to visit the Cranwell Village Church, St Peter’s. He had heard that:
• During wartime, it was customary for RAF serviceman to be buried at the church closest to their squadron’s location;
• A number of Cranwellians had been buried in the Church Cemetery, including those killed during flying training at the College.
What the Cranwellian had not appreciated was that the village is home to nearly 200 graves of his fellow Cranwellians. This album pays a small tribute to each of those Cranwellians by recording the headstones found at St Peter’s Church - with apologies from Lewis and Bailey for ‘bombing’ some photos.
