Travelers Share Their Favorite Family Vacation Destinations

Do you ever think about what your favorite vacation is? Many of us’ favorite vacation was the latest one because it isfresh in our memory and we enjoyed so many places that it’s hard to decide.

Kids Vacations are slightly different; when we go on vacation with kids we also think about what destinations arefamily-friendly and what activities we should schedule during our trips.

We have enjoyed many vacations, and wanted to know which family vacation destination my kids enjoyed the most. All of them had a hard time trying to decide, so I changed the question. For our next vacation, where would you like togo? These were their responses:

The Upside Down House, - Divier (7)

Wonder Works in Myrtle Beach, SC

He is referring to Wonder Works. They have different locations and a few years ago we went to Wonder Works inMyrtle Beach, SC.

Do you need vacation ideas?

Would you like to know what are the best vacation spots for families?

I contacted several family travel bloggers and asked them what was their most memorable vacation and why they

recommended that destination to families?, below are their responses.

1. Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe

I would say our recent trip to Reno / Lake Tahoe where we took 8 of us (with 17 pieces of luggage) for free using170,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points. For us, I’d say it wasn’t as much about the destination as it was just beingtogether with family and extended family

2. Pacific Northwest Road Trip

Northern California Pacific Ocean View

Most memorable family vacation? Wow. That’s a toughie! I’m tempted to say Barcelona/Paris 3 years ago but I thinkthe one we did this summer would rank highest. We road tripped around the Pacific Northwest of the US for 2weeks, spending time in Seattle, Portland, and Northern California. We called it our Pac NW adventure!

I’d recommend such an adventure for making long-lasting memories because of the diversity of experiences weshared together as a family during the two weeks. We hiked around awe-inspiring 300 foot Redwood Trees, jumpedinto the chilly Crater Lake, climbed up Wizard Island’s volcano, stood beside an in-bloom lavender field, saw livesoccer in the sport’s domestic hotbed (Portland + Seattle), camped in a cabin, ate local cuisine, and so much more.

3. Hawaii

Hawaii

Out most memorable vacations would be our 2 ‘dream trips’ to Hawaii that we were able to do because of hotel andairline rewards. I would recommend Hawaii to other families because it offers something for everyone…amazingbeaches, adventure, great food, gorgeous views.

4. Morocco

Morocco

My most memorable family vacation would have to be either Thailand or Morocco. My son was very young (15months) when we went to Morocco, so he does not remember it but that does not mean it did not affect him. BothThailand and Morocco are great for “exotic” family travel because both cultures are so completely different from ours.

The smells of the old town in Marrakech I will never forget and I would not be surprised if a smell doesn’t trigger amemory in Parker’s brain at some time in his life. The people in both countries absolutely adore Western childrenand he was hugged and touched every where we went.

One of the housekeepers at our Riad in Marrakech came to our room every morning and asked if she could holdParker. She would carry him up to the breakfast area and give him a bottle while we ate our breakfast. We took acamel trek through the Sahara desert and again the camel guides doted on Parker at every opportunity. They carriedhim when he got restless on the camel. They tied turbans on his head and showed him different bugs in the sand.

So it sounds like Morocco was the the most memorable trip. Thailand was good too though. Parker was almost 6and he understood some of the differences in their culture and ours and was fascinated by it. But he didn’t like thefood and that was a constant battle.

I would recommend either place to families who are looking for something different. Both countries love children andwill go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

Castaway Island, Fiji

My most memorable family vacation was Castaway Island, Fiji. Probably because it was so exotic and took so longto get there, that it had to be good or we would be in trouble!! The people, the resort, the diving, and the signatureblue starfish were amazing! Both my boys learned to dive there and now the one that got certified in Fiji is anadvanced jr. open water diver! I loved that trip!.

7. Australia

Australia

Gosh, I have had so many! I think Australia is a particularly child-friendly destination and we have had amazing timesin Sydney, on the Sunshine coast and even in the wineries.

8. Cork, Ireland

Cork, Ireland

My most memorable family vacation was three weeks spent outside Cork, Ireland as part of a home exchange withan Irish family in July 2013. We were there during one of the best summers in many, many years. We had warmsunshine nearly every day (maybe two days of drizzle). The Cork area was our home base and we did a half-day tripnearly every day to explore nearby castles, towns and gardens. There was a lot for children to explore and there weremany opportunities to interact with local Irish people. The kids even made a playmate who came by nearly every day.Or, we went to relax in her garden for tea and biscuits with her parents. It was a nice, relaxing vacation. No rushingaround to see every single attraction. We took our time and got to know Ireland. It was perfect.

9. Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park

Our most memorable family vacation would be our recent summer vacation to Yellowstone National Park. And whenpeople hear about Yellowstone, I think people already have an idea where Yellowstone is and how beautiful this placeis. Yellowstone National Park is the world’s first National Park and magical place for everybody to go to andexperience the wild outdoors. You just have to see it for yourself and be prepared to be amazed.

10. Southern California

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

For us family vacations are about family and the best ones are when everyone in the family gets to do a littlesomething they want, everyone gets along, and enjoys spending time with each other.

One of our top family vacations was to Southern California in 2011.

We were able to visit with family – my wife’s sister who had just moved to Los Angeles, and there was so much to do– a little history at the La Brea Tar Pits, shopping at the Farmer’s Market, and a drive down the Pacific Coast Highwayfor a weekend in San Diego. Top highlight was an overnight sleepover experience inside the San Diego Zoo SafariPark.

11. The Breakers Palm Beach

The Breakers Palm Beach

My most memorable family vacation was to The Breakers Palm Beach. It was uber-luxurious and filled with touchesthat are just right for families. They even had a restaurant that had a supervised kids play area so kids could play andMom and Dad could enjoy a delicious Italian dinner. During their low season in summer, room rates are extremelyaffordable and they throw in value-added extras like free kids meals and complimentary supervised kids camp! It’swarm all year long and they LOVE families!

12. China

Our most memorable family vacation was a multi-generational trip to China in 2012 with my 2 and 4 year old boys. Anextraordinary trip that took us to north China near the Siberian border where we saw giant ice sculptures, went on ahorse drawn sleigh and visited a white tiger park. We initially went to China for a skiing holiday. Surprisingly it wascheaper for us to travel to China for a Club Med Ski vacation than it is to ski in Australia where we live. We weren’texpecting to be blown away by the friendliness of the Chinese people but we were. I’d recommend it as a destinationfor friendliness, price and culture.

- Danielle from Bubs on the Move

For many of us family vacation is not about the destination but about spending time together and creating memorieswith our kids.
