S eptember saw some great news for the CRC! We were awarded a $12,500 Technical Assistance (TA) Grant

from the Economic Development Administration (EDA). The grant will partially fund a Targeted Industry

Analysis for the McIntosh County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and will be matched by funds from the

IDA. This analysis will focus on the Tidewater Industrial Park, located in McIntosh County. The 380-acre park is

a prime shovel-ready development site along the I-95 corridor.

A Targeted Industry Analysis provides a blueprint for

focused economic development efforts built upon

existing industries by attracting companies that

would complement local existing industries and aid

in the development of similar new companies within

an economic region.

The research and production of a Targeted Industry

Great Services from the Coastal AAA

“I would like to commend Dionne Lovett for the leadership she has shown in addressing the issues identified at the Veranda Property in Savannah. She quickly coordinated a group of Human Service Professionals to assess the situation and identified immediate needs in order to develop a plan of action. Dionne is an extension of the Division of Ag-ing Services and the State Unit on Aging in advocating for the rights and welfare of all old-er adults in the planning and service area. This is just one example of the many ways an AAA director can impact the lives of older adults for whom we may not necessary provide a direct service, but yet we have responsibility under the Older Americans Act.”

Dr. James Bulot, Director, Division of Aging Services, Ga. Dept. of Human Services

“The social service programs offered by the Aging Services divi-sion of the CRC have been greatly beneficial to my family and

me. With my mother being recently diagnosed with dementia, the Aging Services Case-worker, Peggy Luukkonen, has been a tremendous caregiver offering insight, advice, and support. The Aging Services Division of the CRC cares for the elderly citizens of Coastal Georgia in many ways that deserve the communities’ continued support. To the CRC Aging Services – Please keep up the excellent work; it is greatly appreciated!”

Sean Register, CRC Council Member

“These comments show the level of commitment and caring that all of our staff shows for the community. Dionne and Peggy are excellent employees and true assets to coastal Georgia,” stated Executive Director Allen Burns.

Savannah State to Host Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Glynn, McIntosh and Wayne counes invited to parcipate in the Savannah Region compeon

S AVANNAH— The Savannah State University (SSU) College of Sciences and Technology (COST) will host the 2014 Savannah Regional Science and Engineering Fair Feb. 11-13. The regional fair gives students a setting to

develop important critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and personal management skills, which are essential in today’s fast-paced technological society.

The 2014 fair will expand to include middle and high school students from three additional counties – Glynn, McIntosh and Wayne – along with those from Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, Screven, Tattnall and Toombs counties. Since the program was dropped in Glynn, McIntosh, and Wayne counties, this expansion will provide those students an opportunity to participate in this great program, when they otherwise would not be able to participate.

The Savannah Regional Science and Engineering Fair is one of 22 regional fairs that take place throughout the state at the beginning of each calendar year. The top 15 percent of winners move on to compete at the Georgia Science Engineering Fair and possibly the International Science and Engineering Fair.
