The Emotional Flood

Every day people flood themselves with emotions. The challenge is that more often than not, it’s the negative emotion we experience with intensity and frequency. When we are experiencing challenges, in particular, many of us learn to constantly loop or stack these feelings, asking the same disempowering questions, or experiencing the same negative emotions over and over again. This is called ‘emotional hijacking’ and when we experience this, we must break our pattern and turn this around immediately. We must train and build our muscles to open the floodgates of joy, happiness, love, pride, gratitude, fun, ecstasy, passion, and fulfillment and to shift our physiology and focus from our current experience to what it is we desire most.

This can be a particularly useful tool when overcoming a situation or feeling of despair or hopelessness, as well as conditioning positive, empowering emotions that can help through difficult times.

Remember, all the emotions we desire, we have already experienced. The Emotional Flood is a way to trigger these emotions and anchors that are already inside us as a basis for creating a compelling future.

3 Steps to the Emotional Flood

1. Put yourself in a positive and powerful emotional state

Put yourself in a state of positive expectancy, where you can’t wait for the great surprises in store. Close your eyes and physically pull all of the positive memories from your past into your body.

Anchor these memories physically in your body. Start slow and build momentum until the memories are coming at you more quickly than you can even think about them. Feel these positive memories with every ounce of emotional intensity possible.

Think about any category of positive emotion from your past and bring in the memories quickly, one by one, so that you see the flashes of images and experiences coming into your body.

Questions to ask while doing an emotional flood

• What are some funny times that made me laugh out loud?

• What are some loving times? Sensual and sexy experiences?

• What are some of my proudest moments?

• What have I been grateful for in my life? Why am I blessed?

• What are some spiritual moments in my life?

• What are some fun times and experiences I’ve had?

• What do I appreciate most in my life right now?

2. Capture Your Experience

Now, take a moment to write down what you experienced. How many emotions did you feel? Did you come up with some memories you haven’t thought of in a while? Or, maybe you thought of some things that you haven’t stopped to appreciate recently? What are some of your favorite memories that you experienced? What are the significant events that have positively shaped your identity, that are still with you today?

3. Commit To The 10 Day Challenge

Give yourself the gift of emotional flooding ideally once a day for the next 10 days. You are literally conditioning yourself to feel positive emotions and experiences from your past. Ideally this will become part of your daily emotional fitness ritual, and something that you automatically utilize especially when things start to feel difficult.

Tip: Future FloodWhen you are flooding your past, you might also want to create a future flood—a vision for how your life will be. Anticipate any happy, fun, proud, loving, crazy, sexy, sacred, beautiful, romantic, funny, or exciting moments in your life and experience them as if they are happening right now! Can you see the magic of your life unfold before you? Do you feel the positive emotions that surround you in your life? Envision any magical moments to come from this day forward.
