A LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY

In 1973, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation worked with

a group of generous and forward thinking leaders to

establish the Jewish Community Foundation to encourage the development of

planned gifts and endowments. They understood that collectively we can do

more than any of us can do alone, and they foresaw the benefits of a growing

foundation with resources that could support the community forever. Today, with

nearly $200 million in assets, the Jewish Community Foundation helps donors

make a long-term impact on the vibrancy and financial stability of our community.

Becoming Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees felt like coming home to

me. I follow in the footsteps of my grandparents, Ben and Ceil Marcus, and my

parents, Steve and Joan (of blessed memory) Marcus, who invested their time and

financial resources in Milwaukee’s Jewish community. Through their words (I clearly

recall my mother telling me to be a giver, not a taker) and their deeds, my parents

passed on a legacy of personal responsibility for Jewish life in Milwaukee.

Join hundreds of individuals and families in creating your own legacy. Contact

Jordan Primakow, Director of Philanthropic Services at the Foundation, at

[email protected] or 414-390-5718, to learn more.

Create a Jewish Legacy is a program that helps individuals and families create legacy gifts, providing a permanent source of support for the Jewish causes they care about. The program is founded on the principle that all of us, regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, can make an enduring financial impact.

You can make a commitment today and formalize that commitment with a gift during your lifetime or through your estate plan to establish an endowment or make a bequest to the Jewish community of Milwaukee.

Create a Jewish Legacy, a program of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, is a collaborative effort of the following synagogues, agencies and day schools.*

“ We believe that

leaving a legacy to the Jewish Museum Milwaukee is important so that future generations can learn and understand the history and traditions of the Jewish people locally and globally. The Museum offers intellectual challenges,

food for thought, and a celebration of our culture. It is a rich resource for the entire community. ”

— Jim and Penny Deshur

to generation, it is our honor to contribute to the strength of the Jewish community for generations to come.” — David and Rachael Marks and Linda Leshin

“ Our legacy gift is a

reminder to our children, Robert and Jordana Joseph, to impact the community they live in during their lifetimes. Their grandparents, Mildred and George Bockl, were donors to Jewish Family Services, and our hope is that the third generation will help keep Jewish Family Services strong well past its 150th birthday in 2017.”

— Leon and Bonnie Joseph

“ We have always been active in

the Jewish community. Creating a legacy is a wonderful way for us to come forth and say that we will help future generations benefit from the programs and services like Yeshiva Elementary School that have meant so much to us and our children.”

“ The Milwaukee Jewish

Federation has had a big impact on our family by funding fantastic programs that have molded us into who we are today – and who our children will go on to be in the future. By supporting the Federation, along with the other beneficiaries of our legacy gift, we are helping to ensure that these same important programs will have a similar impact on families like ours long into the future.”

— Mitch, Cheryl, Sam, Jeremy & Daniel Moser

“ We believe our children have received not only an outstanding

secular and religious education at Milwaukee Jewish Day School, but much of the moral grounding that will be necessary to navigate their lives in the future. By making a legacy gift, our family is ensuring that a strong Jewish community will be here for generations to come.” — Lori and Jim Salinsky

Thank you to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, to Bader Philanthropies, and to several funds of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation: the Clarice S. Turer Charitable Fund, the Allen and Vicki Samson Donor Advised Fund, and the Anonymous Fund for generous support of the program.

“ I created a legacy gift for several

organizations that are important to me including the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. I was a board member and I still frequent the JCC for all sorts of programs and activities.” — Suzy Ettinger
