Create an Animation Using Chroma KeyFrames 6 - Chroma Key


Introduction

Launch Frames.

You will see a blank frame on the left and the Tools panel on the right.

Add a Folder of Images

You can drag images from the to create an animation.

Click the Library button on the toolbar.

You will see the folders in the Library.

Double-click the Tutorials folder to open it.

Click the Chroma Key folder to select it.

Click and drag this folder on to the white frame in the preview.

You will see the cursor change to show that you are adding the frames in this folder.

Let go of the mouse button.

You will see all of the frames in the storyboard along the bottom.

Save the Animation

You can save a Frames file so that you can work on it during multiple sessions.

Click the Save button on the toolbar.

You will see the Save Project As dialog.



Type a name and choose a place to save the file.

Click the Save button.

Set a Chroma Key

You can have the flamingo walk in front of any image if you use the Chroma Key optionto remove the solid color background.

Click a frame in the storyboard at the bottom that shows the entire flamingo.

Go to the Edit menu and choose Chroma Key.

You will see the Chroma Key dialog.

Click the On radio button.

Click the Eye Dropper tool.



Click the Eye Dropper in the blue background around the flamingo.

The blue background will disappear.

Click and drag the Tolerance slider so that no blue is showing and you still see theentire flamingo.



Click the OK button.

Change the Background

You can choose a background now that the blue has been “removed” from the frames.


Click the Home button at the top of the Library panel.

Double-click the Backgrounds folder.

Double-click the Locations folder.



You will see the pictures in this category.

Click the image of the location you want to use.

Click the green arrow to add it to the frame.

The file will be downloaded from Pics4Learning and added as the background on thisframe.



You can add this frame to the background of all of the frames in the animation.

Click the Tools button on the toolbar.

You will see frame options on the Tools panel.

Click the Apply to All Frames button.



Preview the Animation

You can preview the animation.

Click the Rewind button on the toolbar to move to the first frame.

Click the Play button to see a preview of the animation.

Change the Title Page Background

You can change the background on the title page so that it looks differently from theanimated frames.

Click the Rewind button on the toolbar to move to the first frame.



Click the Fill pull-down menu on the tools panel and choose Solid Color.

Click the Color box on the Tools panel and choose a light blue color.

You will see this new color on the title page.

Add a Text Object

You can add text to create a title for the animation.

Click the Text tool at the top of the Tools panel.



You will see a text object in the middle of the frame.

Type: Why did the flamingo cross the road?

Move the cursor over one of the blue handles on the text box.

Click and drag away from the middle of the box to make the text larger.

Repeat this process until the text fills the frame.

Format Text

You can change the way text looks.

While the box is selected, use the options on the Tools panel to change the font,alignment, style, and color.



Click the slide away from the text box when you are done.

Change Frame Duration

You can change the length of time a frame is shown. The title frame should last longerthan other frames in the animation.

You will see the frame duration in the Options panel.

Click and drag the Duration slider to the right to make the frame show for 3-4 seconds.This will give viewers time to read the title.

Add and Move a Frame

You can add new frames to the animation.

Click the New frame button on the toolbar.

You will see a new frame in the storyboard behind the first frame.



Click and drag the frame to the right so that it is in the last position in the storyboard.

The frame will show in the preview area.

Click the Color box on the Tools panel to change the background to the same coloryou used on the title frame.

Click the Text tool on the Tools panel to add text to this frame.

Use the skills you have learned to add and format text that says:

Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the changes you have made.

Click the Rewind button on the toolbar.

Click the Play button to see a preview of the animation.



Add a Transition

You can add transitions between frames.



Click the Home button at the top of the window to return to the main categories.

Double-click the Transitions folder.



You will see thumbnail previews of the transitions.

Find the transition you want to use.

Click it to select it.

Click the green arrow to add the transition to this frame.

You will see the transition in the storyboard at the bottom of the window.

Practice this skill by adding another transition between the last two frames.

Hint: transitions are added after the frame that is selected.



Add Sound

You can add sound to an animation.

Click the Rewind button on the toolbar to return to the first frame.

Click the Home button at the top of the Library panel.

Double-click the Sounds folder.

You will see the folders in the Sounds library.

Double-click the Music folder.



You will see the sounds in the Music folder.

Click the By the Sea music file.

Click the green arrow to add this sound to your animated movie.

The sound will be added to the animationstarting at the first frame.


Click the Play button on the toolbar to watch your animation.

Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the changes you have made.

Export a Video

Click the Project button on the toolbar.



Click the Export button.

Click the Computer buttonin the Export a Video area.

You will see the Save Movie As dialog.

Choose a place to save the video.

Click the Save button.

Frames will create the movie.

When it is finished, you will see a Finished Exporting dialog.



Click the Launch button to watch the movie in a video player on your computer.

Close the video.

Close the Frames application.
