VOLUNTEER & PARTICIPATING please note location change The Victoria Hospice Volunteer Bedside Singers are getting ready for a new intake in autumn 2015. Pairs sing gentle songs in the early evenings to our patients in their rooms. Learn more about this special program by attending an information session.

The new location for the session will now be room PCC 150 - this is in the new patient care center tower - in room 150. (sort of behind the gift shop) not in Begbie Hall at RJH. I will ensure there are signs up on the front door of Begbie Hall.

The last information session is on Wednesday April 22, 7pm. Please note the Bedside Singers hold practices on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (except summer) and also note flu shots are a requirement. If you have questions, please contact Kay at [email protected] or 250.370.8849. Submitted by Kathie Doerksen ( a bedside singer organizer ) and High Noon Choir Alto

WORD OF MOUTH / RecommendationsFor supporting and celebrating 'others' whose businesses / actions / way of being / kind words - whatever! - have helped you, us and/or our world grow, come alive and/or prosper.

NICK MOVES ON TO CBC’s SEARCHLIGHT SEMI-FINALS!

First, thank you so much for supporting our Nick with your 1st stage votes.  He is now 1 of 25 Semi-Finalists from our region.

It is not Nicks favourite activity to ask you folk to keep voting (nor mine), however that is the way the game works.  Fortunately, this round is only one week of voting so…if you could take a few minutes each day until voting closes mid-day Monday, April 20th that would be fantastic!  You can register as many votes per day as your various devices/servers will allow - and sharing Nicks link with anyone you feel wouldn’t mind helping out, would be awesome.

Nick’s Web Site

Here is the voting link http://music.cbc.ca/#!/artists/Nick-La-Riviere

Thanks again

Recommended by Elaine and Greg La Riviere Soundings Alto & Bass (and Nick’s proud parents)

Editor’s Note:I second Elaine and Greg’s recommendation. We all know that parents are prone to seeing their offspring through rose coloured glasses but in this case their vision of him as worthy of winning this competition is clearly crystal clear. As a musician, arranger, band leader, trombonist, conch shell player and vocalist is Nick is excellent! Give your ears a treat and check him out on his web site’s video page. Then scroll down his home page for a list of upcoming performances. I’m voting for him daily and I hope you will as well!

COMMUNITY NETWORKINGPlease sponsor me in BOWL FOR KIDS SAKE 2015 (April 17)

Big Brothers Big Sisters in Victoria matches about 500 children to improve their lives.  We have 100 children on the waiting list.  Most are boys and stay on that list for up to 2 years.  We have volunteers but not the resources to set up the matches.  Making a match is an important step and great care must be taken.  We are raising money to reduce that waiting list.

I'm bowling in the 2015 Bowl for Kids Sake for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria and I'd like you to sponsor me. You can do it online and will automatically get a tax receipt. http://bowlforkidssakevictoria.kintera.org/mikewyeth or contact me directly if you don't like paying online [email protected].

Sunday Afternoon SACRED WRITING CIRCLES (Apr 19, 26 + May 3, 10,17, etc.) with Junie Swadron What’s it about?   It’s sharing from our hearts, it’s laughter, it’s friendship. It’s learning to stop judging our work, it’s sipping tea. It’s finding our voice and feeling safe to speak our words out loud. It’s about being authentic and kind. It’s about music and moving our bodies during the break. It’s about creativity and it’s about catharsis – allowing the writing to become our wise teacher.   It’s poetry and it’s prose. Short stories and drawings that we write from. It’s different every time! Every Sunday Ongoing

A 3 Minute Touch Of Nostalgia For Many Of Us

Submitted by Bill Hanson GHC Bass

This video came to me as an email forward from my cousin libby who taught me how to jive when I was 13 and she was 16. She lead and I followed. To this day when I’m jiving with a woman I like passing the lead to them to see what they’ll do with it.

Cousin Libby had this to say about the video…

This is dancing - REAL Dancing! memories!!!! The guy is more fun to watch than the gal as he is "loose as a goose.

Usually the female is featured, but here the young man steals the show - his legs are like liquid magic. And, bless her heart, she lets him shine.

He's 17 and she's only 15. But together, they won the 2012 Junior Division National Carolina Shag Dancing Championships.

They're dancing to Joe Turner's "Flip, Flop and Fly."  http://www.youtube.com/embed/NF80SbicjBE?rel=0

Enjoy!

German Wonderland

Submitted by Vic Kravchenko GHC Tuesday/Thursday Bass

Two brothers, in Germany, had a wonderful model railway that was something to see and which grew into a Wonderland.

It started as a place to show their hobby and grew by leaps & bounds. Soon they were joined by other 'Model Railroad Clubs' and other craftsmen. Some were electricians, model makers, Carpenters, computer programmers. Their wives would stop by to see what they were doing and usually bring them a lunch.

One thing led to another. Three of the ladies had worked at a bakery, several visitors would ask if they had a snack bar. The Idea was planted; some of the carpenters came and built a nice restaurant area for the bakery and a kitchen too. If the fresh Coffee smell didn't get you then the bakery definitely would.

This was about 5 years ago. One of the Breweries came and furnished all of the tables and chairs, serving counter and, etc. Their latest finished area is the airport. Planes look like they are flying and landing.

It is still not finished but is growing to that conclusion as they will soon run out of space.

Enjoy. https://www.YouTube.com/embed/ACkmg3Y64_s?rel=0
