The Aarhus Declaration 2012: Towards European Research Area of Excellence

It is essential that Europe strengthens its science base, with excellence as the guiding principle.

EUROPE must build on and support national excellence initiatives to educate and nurture talent in order to produce and attract top researchers

Page 3: CREATING CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE

Teaming for excellence and innovation

Teaming of excellent research institutions and low perfoming RDI regions

Objective:The creation of new centres of excellence in low performing RDI Member State and regions or significant upgrade of existing ones

Page 4: CREATING CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE

Creation of Stairways to excellence

It means:Investment must be targeted.

Excellence tends to emerge particular areas or fields, involving highly-concentrated effort.

There is a critical mass effect.

Develpoment in Science and Innovation Areas

In 2010 KUT has begun implementing one its most significant projects - the integrated science, studies and business centre the Santaka and Nemunas Valley.

In 2010 the first state-of-the-art Lithuanian Food Science and Technology Competence Centre was established.

In cooperation with Aalto University (Finland), KUT has established Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, acting as an animator of the Valley R&D.
