Where we are going…
Create “Student Friendly Targets” Collaborative Inquiry approach in your
class (extend students’ oral language using different thinking devices)
Quality Feedback Next steps: planning (Inquiry Model),
gathering evidence of student learning and their feedback about what helped them learn
Today…
Develop “Student Friendly Rubrics” to be used as an instructional tool
Develop level 3 & 4 exemplars to support the rubric
Plan the lesson to introduce the clear learning target using a model text
Purpose: make our learning targets accessible to students
TEACHER does: Step 1:
Identify learning targets Step 2
Choose words to be defined Define these words
TEACHER & STUDENTS do: Step 3
Alter definitions to make them more student friendly
Step 4 Create “I can…” statements for levels 3 & 4
TEACHING
Teacher chooses a good read aloud to be the MODEL TEXT (based on the criteria handout)
Plan a read aloud that has a clear connection between the learning target(s) and the inquiry question
Create a level 3 & 4 exemplar based on the Model Text and inquiry question with students
Next Step: Collaborative Inquiry
Decide who will be the teacher who invites us into their classroom
lesson date with your coach will be schedule between March 1st and 8th 2010 (see your coach)
ON THE LESSON DAY: Reflect and review your lesson plan with the team Teach the lesson to the class (1 teacher, coach =
co-teacher, others = observers) Debrief:
What you saw and what you didn’t see during the lesson
Discuss what changes or accommodations need to be made next time
Between Sessions: Teacher Responsibility
After the model text has been presented and exemplars have been created, teacher will choose other texts centered around the same learning target.
This will provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of the learning target by using the rubric and your feedback
Provide timely quality feedback (oral & written) during the lessons (session @ Confed, March 9 or 11)
Collect samples of work (oral or written) for the April 9th session
Planning time
