To plan and design a new medical campus of this scale was a rare opportunity. When the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center was decommissioned in 1997, 217 acres of the 577-acre military base was acquired by the University of Colorado as a new home foritsHospitalandHealthScienceCenter.studioINSITEdefinedthe landscape architectural character for this newly-imagined campustoserveasthe“glue”holdingtogetherthemonumentalarchitectureofthenewmedical,researchandeducationalfacilities.studioINSITEledtheimplementationofthecampuslandscapearchitectureframeworkincludingthe15-milecirculationnetwork,10,000 parking stalls, thousands of planted trees and over 60 acres of sustainably designed open spaces.

studioINSITE’s role in transforming this former military base into a new medical campus is impressive.
