Background

Firstly I added a grey background to which I will add my masthead, header/ footer, coverlines, main image, main coverline, barcode and flash. The grey background will compliment the different colours that will be added to the cover later. Due to the background being dull the colours will be more vibrant and visible to the audience. The colours being bright will make the magazine more eye-catching when placed on the shelves.

Headline/footer & MastheadI then added the header and footer on the cover in yellow font with a blue background. I also added an arrow which is a different shade of blue, I then outlined the arrow in red so that all the colours link effectively and so that the arrow is more noticeable to the reader. In the right hand bottom corner of the front cover I added a barcode, I made the barcode small and compact so that it does not take up valuable space on my front cover. The masthead is placed just under the headline at the top of the page showing its importance on the front cover.

Main Image

Next I placed my main image over the masthead. I did this to show the importance of the artist on the front cover. Also, due to the house style of the magazine the readers will be able to recognise what magazine they are about to buy or read so it shows that it is a well known, popular magazine. I added the main image before the writing on the coverlines so that I can use the image as a guide for where the coverlines will be placed on the magazine.

Flash I placed the flash just beneath the title on the right hand side of the page next to the artists head. This means that the flash will not be easy to miss as it is placed next to the two main objects on the front cover. The flash is a red circle almost like it has been sprayed on the magazine with a spray can. The font colour used on the flash is yellow and very bright further emphasising the fact that it is not easy to miss. The language used in the flash engages the reader as the font is in capitals making it stand out and sound like it is something important to pay attention to. The words such as ‘Win’ and ‘Free’ will focus the reader on the magazine making them want to gain more information about it.

Cover linesFinally, I added in all the cover lines onto the front cover. The headings for each coverline are in red capitals and the information underneath them is in white with no capitals. Both colours have a black background box around the text. This makes the coverlines more appealing as they can be seen easily from a distance and it adds an edgy feel to the front cover which links in with the genre rock. The coverline of the other artist on the page shows that this magazine has loads to offer and there is not only just one good artist in the magazine, that coverline gives readers a taste of what to look forward to in the magazine. There is also a coverline image of a prize that can be won. This intrigues the reader as they would like to read more on how to win the prize. The coverline heading for the prize is yellow coloured font on a black background. This is done to show that the magazine is different and offers a variety of activities and fun to get involved in not just the same old simple coverlines.
