Class Descriptions:
Introduction To Bellydance
Never danced before? This specifically designed Introduction to Bellydance is for you!
Class Outline
1. Warm-Up: Designed to get the circulation flowing - purpose to achieve perspiration without
strain using basic bellydance moving and connecting steps.
2. Isolations: Introduction of slow movements designed to work separate parts of the body and
improve flexibility
3. Technique: Introduction of Oriental Dance techniques while applying correct posture and
weight shifting techniques to perform the basic core bellydance movements.
4. Combinations & Variations: As each lesson progresses, the new techniques will be combined
with those previously learned into simple combinations. This provides insight into how
movements are put together and how one movement can be varied to look different. 5. Improvisation & Choreography: We investigate two different ways of having fun with dance
through creative dance improvisation to bellydance music, and putting together combinations
learnt to form a simple choreography.
6. Cool Down: Structured to help relieve any build up of stress and to shift the concentration of
blood from the muscles to flow through the rest of the body. The student finishes the class
feeling relaxed and invigorated.
Children's Bellydance
A class especially designed for children, focussing primarily on musicality, dance foundations and a
more folkloric based movement repertoire. The goal is to have fun and enjoy the process of learning to
dance to middle eastern music. Many of the concepts taught in class will be combined to create a
dance that the children will work through at their own pace over a number of terms to the song, Kart Shahn by popular lebanese singer, Nancy Ajram, and available on the Shakhbat Shakhabit CD. Parents
and relatives are invited to sit in on the last class of each term to see how we've progressed. No prior
experience neceassary. Suitable for all children ages 5-8yrs.
Bellydance Technique & Choreography
This term, we will be learning a choreography designed specifically to consolidate some of the
technique learnt in our intro class and introduce some interesting footwork and variations to upbeat
arabic pop song, Aah Ya Layel by Shereen, available on the Now Arabia 4 CD. Suitable for on-going intro students, and new students with previous bellydance experience.
