Approved ProviderThis education programme was set up in 2008 by the charity MAP as an approved off site provider and offers Edexcel BTEC qualifications.

Students have opportunities to experiment with graphics and illustration, digital photography and film, digital media, screen printing, DJing, painting, drawing and music production.

Creative Study

Within these creative subjects there are opportunities to embed elements of Maths and English, and we provide one to one assessor support to help students build upon these examples and then study and revise for their Maths and English qualifications and exams.

MATHS & ENGLISHProgression OpportunitiesMAP Education courses are delivered in an environment that develops creativity, confidence and academic skills with the aim of readying learners to return to school or progress on to further education.

Meeting Needs

Short term KS3 placements with a focus on returning to mainstream education.

Longer term placements studying BTEC qualifications and Functional Skills.

Providing places for students who are between long term placements, changing schools or moving between providers.

Supporting students who are attending education after a long period of disengagement.

Supporting students who are being assessed for EHCP and specialist placements.

At MAP we work closely with schools, homes and a range of supporting agencies to provide placements that meet a range of needs:

Curriculum

We work with students, schools and homes to make sure that the choice of course and qualification is right for the learner; supported through a clear referral process, trial sessions and initial assessment, each student at MAP has access to a range of qualifications and units to suit their learning requirements.

MAP has supported us with some of our most

disengaged pupils and I have seen some real successes at MAP with the pupils that I have referred and supported. Pupils have developed their confidence, social

skills and better engagement with education and learning.

The Maths and English course builds upon examples that are already found within the creative activities undertaken at MAP, providing a practical way for students to relate to the Maths and English activities that they sometimes struggle with. Building on these examples, we give students one to one support in working through a GCSE study and revision programme, or a functional skills programme - both of which use a range of computer based, paper based, and practical activities.

MAP Education’s primary focus is on supporting students with their GCSE exams, which means MAP staff timetabling for both the mock and GCSE exams and making sure students are confident and prepared for these. MAP Education also offers the certificates above if, for any reason, a student cannot access mainstream GCSE exams.

Wider Arts ActivitiesAside from the education programme, the MAP Charity also carries out a wide range of arts and music activities with professional and developing artists and university students. These other activities are of considerable value to the education programme as they offer the students a unique experience that raises aspirations and highlights options for progression.

“In school there’s more going on… so you get distracted

easily, but in MAP, it’s smaller. When we’ve got an issue or a problem they’re

there for you, and they know what you’re about. It’s a good vibe, and everyone gets along… It’s helped me to figure out what I

have to do in life, and what not to do in life… After MAP, I’m going to go back to school.”
