Creative Minds Shaping the Future Issue 17 - December 10, 2020 Dear Parents and Caregivers We come to the end of Week Nine and our last newsletter for 2020. Reflecting on the year past we have achieved so very much in what I can only be described as an extraordinary year. Over the past couple of weeks, we have celebrated and embraced Naidoc week and I thank Mrs Sambo for her organization of these celebrations. I also thank the East Kalgoorlie Choir for taking the time to be a part of our opening ceremony and for their beautiful singing. Last week we held our Colour Run as part of our engagement and attendance initiative, which was a resounding success. I would especially like to thank Ms Renee Scott who coordinated the event and to all staff for your support and help on the day J. This event would not have occurred without the support of the following companies; Kids on Carrington, Surge Electrical Contracting, Focus Mining Maintenance Solutions, DJS Fixed Plant Maintenance Solutions, Kal Signs, Cooper Fluid Solutions, Kalgoorlie Case and Drill, The Volunteer Fire Fighters and Rock Tech. Our Nature Playground was opened to our students this week and enjoyed by many. Thank you to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the 8 large trucks of mulch and to our awesome Steve for organizing the spread of the mulch. Class Parties: This year, class parties will look a little different due to the COVID-19, Phase Four, Departmental guidelines. There will be no shared plates this year. Each child will need to bring their lunch in as per usual. The school will fund a party gift bag for each student that our fantastic P & C will be putting together. Thank you Miss Laura and Miss Liz!! The upside of these guidelines is parents do not have to worry about what to cook/buy. Goodbyes, it is always sad to say goodbye to staff who leave. This year on behalf of the school community I would like wish the following staff the very best for the next chapter of their lives; Ms Mustica, Ms Scott and Ms Ball. Thank you for your dedication to South Kalgoorlie Primary School, and for your caring of the students at SKPS. Over the year we have had many staff, including myself on leave, or in positions at other schools. We have some wonderful relief teachers who have stepped in to fill the vacancies and I would like to thank, Mr Nathoo, Mrs Stacey, Mrs ODonoghue and Mrs Allen. We appreciate your support of SKPS and it is a pleasure to have you as part of our school community. In this ever changing environment, I take this opportunity to thank you, the parents and caregivers, in all you do to ensure that together we keep our school safe. We appreciate you adhering to social distancing and the all-important, hand hygiene. Have a safe and happy summer break. Warm regards Kath Cambetis Acting Principal

Creative Minds Shaping the Future

Issue 17 - December 10, 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers

We come to the end of Week Nine and our last newsletter for 2020. Reflecting on the year past we

have achieved so very much in what I can only be described as an extraordinary year. Over the

past couple of weeks, we have celebrated and embraced Naidoc week and I thank Mrs Sambo for

her organization of these celebrations. I also thank the East Kalgoorlie Choir for taking the time to be

a part of our opening ceremony and for their beautiful singing. Last week we held our Colour Run as

part of our engagement and attendance initiative, which was a resounding success. I would

especially like to thank Ms Renee Scott who coordinated the event and to all staff for your support

and help on the day J. This event would not have occurred without the support of the following

companies; Kids on Carrington, Surge Electrical Contracting, Focus Mining Maintenance Solutions,

DJS Fixed Plant Maintenance Solutions, Kal Signs, Cooper Fluid Solutions, Kalgoorlie Case and

Drill, The Volunteer Fire Fighters and Rock Tech.

Our Nature Playground was opened to our students this week and enjoyed by many. Thank you to

the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the 8 large trucks of mulch and to our awesome Steve for

organizing the spread of the mulch.

Class Parties:

This year, class parties will look a little different due to the COVID-19, Phase Four, Departmental

guidelines. There will be no shared plates this year. Each child will need to bring their lunch in as

per usual. The school will fund a party gift bag for each student that our fantastic P & C will be

putting together. Thank you Miss Laura and Miss Liz!! The upside of these guidelines is parents do

not have to worry about what to cook/buy.

Goodbyes, it is always sad to say goodbye to staff who leave. This year on behalf of the school

community I would like wish the following staff the very best for the next chapter of their lives;

Ms Mustica, Ms Scott and Ms Ball. Thank you for your dedication to South Kalgoorlie Primary School,

and for your caring of the students at SKPS.

Over the year we have had many staff, including myself on leave, or in positions at other schools.

We have some wonderful relief teachers who have stepped in to fill the vacancies and I would like to

thank, Mr Nathoo, Mrs Stacey, Mrs O’Donoghue and Mrs Allen. We appreciate your support of SKPS

and it is a pleasure to have you as part of our school community.

In this ever changing environment, I take this opportunity to thank you, the parents and caregivers, in

all you do to ensure that together we keep our school safe. We appreciate you adhering to social

distancing and the all-important, hand hygiene.

Have a safe and happy summer break.

Warm regards

Kath Cambetis Acting Principal

WAAPA Summer School 2021

This summer WAAPA is thrilled to be able to offer an exciting school holiday program at our campus in Mount Lawley. There are classes for students from Year 1 to Year 12 in drama, acting, screen performance, film making, music theatre and of course Shakespeare. For information about the many courses on offer please visit waapa.ecu.edu.au/summer-school or contact Gabrielle Metcalf at [email protected] or 9370 6775.

School Dog Policy Reminder It is Education Department policy that dogs are not allowed onto school grounds unless part of a school organised event or program. Potentially any dog can be a risk to children and some children experience fear and anxiety around dogs. Family pets account for 40% of dog attacks and children under 12 are most at risk. Most serious attacks on children involve head and facial injuries. We request that parents please do not bring their dogs onto the school property.

financially to ensure our Year 6 graduates excursion to Coolgardie
