The Term BollywoodThe term Bollywood was created by combining two names, Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and Hollywood. Bollywood based in Mumbai (Bombay), is India’s – and the world’s - largest film industry in terms of the number of films produced, and also the number of tickets sold each year.

A True East-West Fusion!The highlight of Bollywood movies are elaborate dance sequences and original soundtracks. Over the years Bollywood movies have developed their own signature style of song and dance, which combines the rich texture of India’s many classical and folk dances, fused with elements of Jazz, Hip – Hop, Arabic and Latin Forms.

The writing you can see in the picture is called Chinese Calligraphy.

Calligraphy comes from a Greek word meaning ‘beautiful writing.’

When do you think Chinese calligraphy first originated?

Approximately 4600 years ago!

The symbols began as pictures. Pictures were drawn to resemble the items they represented.

The Story of

Rosa Parks

America in the 1950’s

The black community are segregated from the white.

On the buses, black people were made to sit in the back rows

Whilst the white took the four rows

at the frontof the bus

x

But if the front rows were full

The black passengers were expected to give up their seats

On December 1st, 1955

Rosa Parks was travelling home on the buses from a day at her work as a seamstress

She took a seat labelled for ‘coloured people’

Rosa’s seat

After a few stops, the seatsbegan to fill

And when a white man entered the bus, the driver insisted that

Rosa and the three other passengers on her row

give up their seats for him.

Rosa refused

She was arrested and tried on charges of

‘disorderly conduct’

Rosa Parks believed in a world

where black andwhite

communities could live and work

together

She was later named the ‘Mother of the Civil Right’s

Movement’ for her refusal on that day

"My message to the world is that we mustcome together and live

as one"
