+What I’ve Learned

These spaces attract me:

Open space

High ceilings

Elegant colors, textures

Uncrowded

Ambient sound

The ‘coolness’ factor. These companies have it: Apple, Aveda, Starbucks, and Nordstrom

These spaces repel me:

No breathing room

+If I Had a Retail Store, I would:

Have cash registers near the front door for security and at the back of the store for increased revenue

Have ample interactivity with products

Create a fun, social experience

Have beauty as a predominant aesthetic

Have small, well designed displays of product

Have refreshments as a matter of course

Live ambient music

+Conclusions

I am a person who is deeply impacted by my surroundings

I vote with my dollars and time

If I find a space that meets my needs for beauty, fun, refreshment and novelty, I’ll be back

If the space is too hard to navigate, or too over-stimulating, no matter what the ‘bargains’ are, I’ll shop online

My office is so open and noisy, that I often prefer to work from home
