Save the Date

We have come a long way in the 7+ years since our founder, Jane Pilger decided to take on the challenge of starting our New Mexico Chapter. In October 2007, CREW New Mexico became the 65th CREW Network Chapter with 37 members. Jane led our organization as President for the first 2 years, she served on our board through 2014 and continues to be our mentor and guide us as we grow.

Fast forward to December 2014. Our membership grew to 87 professional women under the leadership of our 2014 President, Shirley Anderson. Shirley’s focus on growth and value to our members through networking and recognition provided the motivation that accelerated that growth.

In 2015, I am excited to take the torch and continue the momentum that has been created by my predecessors. Shirley and I attended the CREW Network Leadership Summit in San Diego, California on February 12-13th. Each time we attend the Network events we learn something valuable, meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. CREW Network is the foundation on which each chapter is built and provides the guidance, expertise and wisdom from which to grow.

This year, my goal is to encourage each member to take advantage of the unbelievable and valuable resources CREW Network has to offer. With laughter and wisdom, Suzie Humphreys encouraged the audience to say ‘yes’ to life’s adventures and to remember that saying ‘no’ leads to nowhere. She said when life presents you with a challenge, the

A Letter from 2014 President

It was such a pleasure to be your 2014 CREW President and what a great year! I was able to get to know all of our amazing committees and see how hard everyone worked to keep the wheels turning and the excitement growing. Starting with our first meeting the buzz began with new members applying which continued on throughout the year giving us the highest growth percentage since CREW NM began in 2007. Thank you all for making our guests feel welcomed and eager to

join. This kept our Membership Committee very busy and we appreciate all their efforts led by Elaine Breen and Jessica Austin.

2014 also saw more press coverage than ever before, thanks to our partnership with Albuquerque Business First as our In-Kind Media Sponsor. The year began with a three page cover story titled “What Boys Club?” and included write-ups from all board members showing how many different industries are represented within CREW. This was followed by ads and press releases throughout the year that highlighted our accomplishments. Thanks to Shelly Branscom, and PR/Marketing co-chairs, Grace McCoskey and Janet Cochran we are more well known in the business community. We also saw results from our survey that showed CREW NM members had a $200 million impact in commercial real estate deals in Albuquerque.

Thanks to the commitment of Justine Deshayes and Sherry Reed, 2014 had the largest amount of sponsors ever and a very special thanks to all the companies who supported CREW in 2014.

Martha Carpenter, Jeanie Springer and the Education Committee celebrated the first graduation of their amazing Mentoring Program and began their second program last fall. We applaud their dedication through mentoring that is helping to build tomorrow’s leaders. I also want to thank Amy Cherne and Laurie Roach who led our outreach

focus to support Crossroads for Women and the Christina Kent Early Childhood Center. CREW members stepped up once again.

Jasmin Sanchez helped Events Co-Chairs Cynthia Meister and Keri Stewart and provided us all with interesting speakers and fun social events that continue to be a large draw. Events has always been close to my heart as its the first Chair in 2007. I truly appreciate their hard work and all who participate.

A very special thanks to our dedicated past presidents. In addition to Martha and Sherry I would like to thank Stephanie Skaggs for stepping back on the board as treasurer, Debbie Dupes who is behind the scenes helping all committees throughout the year and keeping our website and newsletter current and interesting. And our founding member, Jane Pilger who stepped down off the board after seven years, but will be an advisor and continue her never-ending commitment to our growth and future success.

Now to 2015, under the leadership of Mary Jury, I know it will be another great year for CREW NM. I’ve known Mary for many years and am thrilled to be working closely with her. Together she and I will help Kathleen Gallegos prepare for 2016.

How lucky I’ve been to work with so many amazing women. I’m delighted to see how CREW has grown over the years and thrilled to see how our long-time members and new members will take us even further. The women of CREW New Mexico are the success of our community. Together we are a power house!

Members: Meg Randall, Randall Appraisal and Justine Deshayes, Wells Fargo Bank Meg Randall performed an appraisal on an office building I needed to renew. It was on time and very detailed. I’m glad I was able to work with a fellow CREW member!!

Members: Justine Deshayes, Wells Fargo Bank and Martha Carpenter, Colliers International. One of my clients, a veterinarian, was tired of leasing and interested in purchasing his own building. He didn’t have broker representation so I provided him a few individuals from different firms- all CREW members. He chose to partner with Martha Carpenter, Colliers International, and she took wonderful care of him! Not only did he close on a new building for his practice, he’s also doing tenant improvements to make the building more suited for his needs. It is extremely beneficial to confidently refer other members of CREW as brokers to my clients and prospects. I know they’ll receive excellent treatment!

Members: Shelly Branscom, NAI Maestas & Ward and Debbie Dupes, CBRE. Debbie brought the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to 6001 Indian School Road for a 3-year lease. Shelly represented the Landlord.

Members: Brenda Moore, Albuquerque Plaza, Debbie Dupes, CBRE and Mary Jury, Workspace Dynamics. Debbie and Brenda worked together to renew the Keleher McLeod Law Firm at 201 3rd Street for a 7-year deal. Debbie represented the Tenant and Brenda represented the Landlord. Mary’s company provided interior design work and space planning.

Members: Debbie Dupes, CBRE, Diana Stoneberger, Fidelity National Title and Melanie Velasquez, First Citizens Bank. Debbie represented the 1031 Exchange purchase of 9202 San Mateo for the Harvey & Foote Law Firm. Diana closed the deal and Melanie provided the financing.

Members: Debbie Dupes, CBRE, Bobbie Hayes, Accounting & Consulting Group and Diana Stoneberger, Fidelity National Title. A referral from Bobbie Hayes to Debbie, Debbie represented Navajo Sanitation as the buyer of 9204 San Mateo. Diana closed the deal.

Committee Spotlight

CREW New Mexico is excited to announce that the CREW Career Education Committee is launching its third year of the CREW Mentoring Program!

A truly rewarding experience, the CREW Mentoring Program guides both protégés and mentors through a proven curriculum that not only develops the protégés, but also the mentors. Mentors and protégés both experience personal growth, in addition to, trusted, professional and personal friendships. If you have ever thought about mentoring or helping women advance in their careers, now’s the time to do it. If you are wanting to take that next step in your commercial real estate career, we are accepting applications for both mentors and protégés for the upcoming 2015 – 2016 Mentoring Program.

If you have any questions, or are interested in becoming a mentor, protégé or know of someone that would make a perfect mentor or protégé, please contact Keri Stewart, [email protected] or 505-296-3440.
