CriKit is a complete desktop cloud infra-
structure in one compact, energy-efficient,
yet powerful package. CriKit is also upgrada-
ble and expandable to meet the most de-
manding classroom needs. CriKit includes:
1. Four powerful Intel Xeon-based micro-
server compute nodes.
2. An external storage system that starts
at 2 TB and is upgradable to 18 TB in a
single desktop enclosure.
3. Unmanaged 8 port 1 GB Ethernet
switch.
4. 8 Port Keyboard, Video and Mouse
USB/DVI switch.
5. Management Workstation for managing
cloud and hypervisor environments.
6. 19 “ Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard.
7. All cables required to provide connectiv-
ity for the entire unit.
Plus, custom environments can easily be
created for your specific needs.

Future computing innovation depends on
giving students access to the fundamentals
of cloud computing today so they can see,
use, and yes, break and fix cloud computing
environments directly and not at a distance.
CriKit allows for the creation of entirely new
teaching approaches around cloud compu-
ting by putting the cloud environment direct-
ly under the control of teachers, while giving
access to students across a wide range of
teaching scenarios.
CriKit is also very GREEN. Each CriKit com-
pute node consumes less than 100 Watts of
power making it the most energy efficient
Private Cloud platform in computing today !

It is now clear - Cloud Computing tech-
nologies are the future. For educators,
the main question becomes :
“How do we take advantage of this
new computing paradigm for the
most benefit to students, teachers
and administrators while keeping
costs low and reducing the carbon
footprint of our computing infra-
structure?”
The answer to this question is difficult
when using previous server technologies
that require expensive and complex
data centers and high amounts of elec-
tricity for operation and cooling.
What is needed today is an in-class
cloud computing environment where
students can learn more by having the
technology in front of them rather than
locked away in a remote, inaccessible
data center.

“CriKit” stands for Cloud Resource and
Infrastructure Kit. It was developed
primarily for cloud education and train-
ing, plus cloud development , but is
now also applied to broader uses in
general computing. CriKit is a truly
compact, energy-sipping, yet powerful,
multi-node cloud computing platform
that literally fits on a portion of a
standard office desk. It is a Desktop
Private Cloud in a literal sense, not a
virtual one. CriKit changes the educa-
tional landscape around cloud compu-
ting by allowing educators to share and
reuse resources across multiple clas-
ses and curriculums.

Imagine having a multi-tenant cloud
computing infrastructure in a class-
room. One where every student has
their own account and virtual machine
with an operating system and applica-
tion. When a student arrives in the
class, they log on and start their virtu-
al machine, use it, shut it down and
the next class comes in and does the
same process. One CriKit system can
accommodate multiple classrooms in
this way.
CriKit is ideal for technical environ-
ments where classes focus on various
areas of the entire computing stack.
One class could be on managing op-
erating systems, while the next can
focus on web development and so on.
Because CriKit is an entirely new
computing paradigm, its uses are just
being discovered. Essentially, it is a
mini-datacenter on a desk that runs
30+ virtual machines and cloud soft-
ware of your choosing. Imagine what
you and your students could do with
