It is now clear - Cloud Computing tech-

nologies are the future. For educators,

the main question becomes :

“How do we take advantage of this

new computing paradigm for the

most benefit to students, teachers

and administrators while keeping

costs low and reducing the carbon

footprint of our computing infra-

structure?”

The answer to this question is difficult

when using previous server technologies

that require expensive and complex

data centers and high amounts of elec-

tricity for operation and cooling.

What is needed today is an in-class

cloud computing environment where

students can learn more by having the

technology in front of them rather than

locked away in a remote, inaccessible

primarily for cloud education and train-

ing, plus cloud development , but is

now also applied to broader uses in

general computing. CriKit is a truly

compact, energy-sipping, yet powerful,

multi-node cloud computing platform

that literally fits on a portion of a

standard office desk. It is a Desktop

Private Cloud in a literal sense, not a

virtual one. CriKit changes the educa-

tional landscape around cloud compu-

ting by allowing educators to share and

reuse resources across multiple clas-

ses and curriculums.

Imagine having a multi-tenant cloud

computing infrastructure in a class-

room. One where every student has

their own account and virtual machine

with an operating system and applica-

tion. When a student arrives in the

class, they log on and start their virtu-

al machine, use it, shut it down and
