Crime Documentary
Likes about crime documentariesLikes:• In our group, we have decided to approach our documentary in a way
that Channel 4 take when producing, airing and deciding on the documentaries they show. • We think Channel 4 go down a more fine route then what the BBC do,
and their documentaries are more ‘one off’ or single documentaries, instead of a series such as BBC 1’s CrimeWatch. • Also, Channel 4 tend to show more of the harsh reality of crime and the
ways they affect peoples lives, psychological problems in the aftermath and whether the justice system is executed properly and fairly.
…• We want our documentary to have enactment’s and reconstructions of
the crime, which will be an attack, followed by a car robbery.• We will show this through the use of CCTV, and maybe try and attempt
to edit infrared cameras into our documentary for more affect.• We will also have a section where we give advice, and a help line so the
documentary becomes more interactive which viewers who have been affected by similar problems and crimes included in the documentary. • We will also include a narrative, where discuss how best to attempt to
prevent these things from happening again in the future, and how to best keep people safe.
Dislikes about crime documentaries• In terms of crime documentaries shown by The BBC, we believe they are
generalised and focus on softer crimes. • We think this is because they are shown before the watershed and so need
to be sensitive for younger viewers and shown every single week, so they are a series.• These programmes are used in chronological orders, showing the crime and
then outcome, rather then showing what happened and how the crime was dealt with and then what they did.• Furthermore, we believe The BBC show the emergency services in a positive
light, which we think is staged to an extent. Whereas Channel 4, show the harsh reality of crime, and when and why the justice system at times fails.
